Um...Gross

No he didn't just diss MKO!

After Mary-Kate's David Letterman appearance last week, The Hills Spencer Pratt is speaking out about her comments toward his bad temper on the soccer field while they were in high school together.

The reality villian had this to say:

"I don't really get why she'd use my name to get press for her little indie film that no one's going to see...She should probably focus more on not getting dressed in the dark than on me...I know I've made it in Hollywood when a famous troll is talking about me on Letterman...I forgive her, though. She's had to go through life as the less cute twin, which must be tough."

the american snapshot

snap·shot ('snap-shät) n. an impression or view of something brief or transitory.

The "American Snapshot"... the phrase keeps popping up of late; in magazines, blogs, books and museum exhibitions.

The photo above was taken by my father, of my grandfather. I have no idea of the year and I wish my father were here today to tell me more about this photo and others that he took. Instead, I can only wonder about the camera, what he thought as he composed the shot and how the film was processed.

I am intrigued with the snapshot - what does and what does not qualify? Obviously, a formal portrait would not; would most of the stunning photographs in NatGeo? I doubt it - they are carefully conceived, composed and produced. And certainly, just any picture, snapped without regard to light and composition is not what I am referring to either.

More to come...

just 3 words

My 3 words for last week: "I am addicted"
~to photography... to taking/making photographs~
I went poolside yesterday... to read, swim, relax. I had packed my camera bag - three cameras (well, there were puffy clouds, so I needed the IR one) and left it at home. Panic! There are potential photos everywhere.... alas - I need help. Is there a group out there? Will B&H please stop accepting my orders? (just kidding you guys - winkwink!)

PS I am reminded of a quote:
There will be times when you will be in the field without a camera. And, you will see the most glorious sunset or the most beautiful scene that you have ever witnessed. Don't be bitter because you can't record it. Sit down, drink it in. and enjoy it for what it is! - DeGriff

City Cards Venue Spotlight. Simons Place

We are gonna try something new starting from this week. Basically it is to highlight one of our City Card venues. Having spoken with our people on the ground they suggested Simon's Place.

Anyone passing through Georges Street Arcade will probably be familiar with Simons Place. The cafe opened its door in December 1997 rising from the ashes of Marks bro(2) which closed its doors in July 1996. It is widely recognised as one of the best independent cafe's in the city. The Clientele is an eclectic mix of Couriers, Students, Businessmen, Hedonists,Tourists, Musicians, Artists and others

The cafe has always been synonomous with flyer and postcard culture for many years. Simons Place must be doing something right. At last count they had 1276 friends on Myspace. Here is a link to their Myspace page.

The exhibits, the talks, the art everywhere - fabulous!

Tunbridge Tigers

Talk about your perfect season. The Tunbridge Tigers t-ball team recently wrapped up a season where every batter hit 1.000 and every team finished a perfect 0-0-8. Road games required travelling to the next town. As the unofficial team photographer, I've collected a few of the moments from the season.

And Speaking Of The Olsens...

HAPPY 22nd BIRTHDAY MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY!

I hear the two fashionistas have been spotted in Tennessee, in town for the Bonaroo music festival in Manchester.

Can you believe that it's been over 21 years since they first made their debut on Full House? Crazy I must say!

Izzie Out Of Emmy Running

Due to the lack of a great storyline for her character in this past season of Grey's Anatomy, Katherine Heigl feels she should not be included in the choosing of Emmy nominees. The blossoming actress won last year for best supporting actress.

She says, "I did not feel that I was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention."

Oh Iz, always putting others before yourself. I hope this doesn't hurt you at all though within Greys, it's a kinda sorta subtle slap in the face to the writing staff.

Quote Of The Day

"I don't consider myself sexy...I'm kind of a nervous person in general. I'm socially awkward. I'm not tall and sensuous. I usually wear sweats everywhere I go. Oh, and I burp a lot." - Carrie Underwood tells all in the July issue of Cosmo.

what are you trying to say?

When I hear someone (usually a professor or instructor... and I think they are just trying to fill a classroom) ask "what is your message (painting, photograph, etc)?", I want to .... well, I get a little sassy. A message or story is not imperative for a good photograph or painting - except in photojournalism. Art is about light and shadow, lines, form and (as Henri Cartier-Bresson said) geometry.
You want a story, go read a book!

Congrats Goes Out To The Warrens!

Jessica Alba and hubby Cash Warren are parents to a baby girl! The two welcomed the little one, Honor Marie Warren, on Saturday June 7 in L.A. Congrats!
