A Quick, Little GG Fix

The CW has been leaving us high and dry lately with Gossip Girl repeats every Monday (boo!) ... So we thought we'd just give you a quick fix of some GG love.

I want to raid Leighton Meester's trailer/Blair's wardrobe. She's just the cutest.

a very good night

It was a bitter cold evening, but Brandon looked great and pitched great! There was just one very important person missing. Gary loved to watch Brandon pitch and would swell up with so much pride, I thought he would burst.

Brandon, you make us all proud every day.

two-by-two

fly by

I am quickly realizing the full weight of having to make every decision on my own... the worry over maintaining a house and property rests on my shoulders now and it's a scary thing. Well, maybe not scary, but worrisome at least. Damn! Every time I sit down to write one of these blog posts, I end up in tears.

Anyway, two-by-two is so much better than solo.

Oscars 2009: Who Will Win?

Finally... it's Oscar day! After a month of discussing whether Slumdog Millionaire will win Best Picture or if Kate Winslet will finally get her long-awaited golden statue, the moment has finally arrived.

As huge lovers of movies and all things Hollywood, we thought we'd share our picks for the top 6 categories. Our choices are based on industry buzz, personal preference, and gut feelings. We do not under any circumstances suggest you use our picks for any Oscar pool you might be doing...

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Yes, we realize this is the safe choice. But with the amount of buzz this movie has generated, we feel it's an absolute no-brainer. Every now and then, the Academy votes for the feel-good movie of the year--and Slumdog looks like the next big winner.

Best Director: Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
Do you see a trend? We think they'll sweep these top two awards. Beg to differ?

Best Actor: Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
We're not huge fans of Mr. Rourke but his performance was amazing and well respected across Hollywood. Many think Sean Penn may nab this one but we're going with our gut and picking Mickey. (Now if only he'd stop stalking Evan Rachel Wood...)
Best Actress: Kate Winslet, The Reader
Winslet's Oscar win is long overdue--we know it, she knows it, even the Academy knows it. Let's hope the universe works itself out and she wins a golden statue tonight. We heart Kate.

Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
Because his performance was THAT GOOD. He commanded your attention while onscreen and delivered an almost-perfect performance. The academy will most definitely recognize this with a win.
Best Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz, Vicki Cristina Barcelona
You couldn't take your eyes off her. She's an underrated actress who just might come into her own tonight.

Creative Commons Gallery

We have just launched a new series of artists postcards 'Creative Commons Gallery' which are now in distribution through our postcard racks. In line with the creative commons movement where people release some of their intellectual property rights under a special licence, so that their work can be shared, built upon or enjoyed by others we are printing a selection of artists work that is in the public domain under a creative commons licence.
The first artist featured is Pieter Fannes who hails from Belgium and image used is a Giacometti inspired drawing.

If you h
ave any suggestions of future artists and their work ( that is available under a creative commons licence)that we should feature please let us know. Contact emily@thepictureworks.com or mark@thepictureworks.com with your suggestions.

a wider view

I am going to try taking a wider view in (some of) my photos. I have a tendency to start shooting and then get in really close... fascinated by the small details that most of us miss. But I want to learn to see the bigger picture and hone my landscape and cityscape skills.

And... a broader perspective in other areas couldn't hurt either.

the heart

the heart

My first thought was to just avoid the whole Valentine's Day hoopla... have a heart-less day, sorta. It seems that I would have to hide under my bed in order to do that, so I am now just trying not to be a Debbie Downer... a wet, red, hearts-and-flowers blanket on everyone else's hoopla.

Trying....

Guinness Mobile Screens

Last weekend was big in Croke Park. We were there with our screens for Guinness Rugby. Before and after the game the screen was stationary on Jones Road and when the ground cleared we went touring the pubs to show our screen to the celebrating fans. Check out the video above to see how we got on.

i-site cycle 4

We have 3 campaigns kicking off through i-site. HSE for sexual health , Jameson Dublin Film Festival which runs from February 12-22 and Carlsberg which transports me to a different place! I wish!

Spotted!

Spotted: Newly engaged DWTS’ couple Karina Smirnoff and Maksim (Max) Chmerkovskiy dancing the night away and drinking Love Potions at the mur.mur nightclub inside of the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City.

We caught up with the couple and briefly asked them about their impending nuptials…

Says Karina on the details of their engagement:

“It was so special! Just a dream come true... Getting engaged is a lot of fun, and a lot of nerves!”

Says Max on picking the perfect ring for Karina:

“You never really know… you just put yourself out there... I just picked what I liked and hoped for the best! My biggest concern was if it was big enough!”—India-Jewel Jackson

do not forward

Please do not forward those emails that promise that my wish will come true
if only I will forward the email on to 10 of my closest friends, including you.

Ten million emails will not make my wish come true.

now brewing...

A wise friend reminded me that although the "old" normal is gone, a new one will take its place. Indeed, though I feel frozen in time, life is pushimg me forward - a little more each day.
Do I want to go there? No, I do not. I want to go back...

back to the comfortable, worn-into-each-others-grooves days.
Where we could finish each others sentences.
Where we would often say "I was just thinking the same thing!"
Where the house did not seem so empty and quiet.
Where the promise of a warm, sunny day felt good.

GCN 21

GCN are celebrating their 21st year of Independent Publishing. Started in 1987 while homosexuality was still illegal in the Emerald Isle, not being decriminalised untill 1993! What a great achievement. Wish them many more years. Congratulations to one and all.
To celebrate they are having a party in Tripod 19th Feb 2009. Check out the inventive video to promote it.

two months

sky designs

Two months. I seem to be falling into a routine that gets me through the day. Who am I kidding? I don't have a routine. But, I'm getting pretty good at pretending that I'm okay. I go through the motions, do what needs to be done, lay my head down at night and somehow, eventually, it is morning again. Two months.
