Just for the fun of it

Summer roars on, the heat is stifling and staying cool is a priority. I don't remember being sensitive to the heat (or the cold) when I was a child. Although I grew up in upstate New York, I can tell you that the summers get hot there too... it just doesn't usually last as long as it does in the South. I guess I have become acclimated to air conditioning and ceiling fans. :)

Ao Haru Ride © Sakisaka Io/Shueisha
[First serialized in Betsuma]

Okay, this one only had 5 chapters out so far, so I'm making another first impression post. Before I start, let's say YAY!! for another work from Sakisaka Io (previous work: Strobe Edge). I really adore her artwork so I'm ready to follow this series religiously ^^

Summary

Yoshioka Futaba has a few reasons why she wants to "reset" her image and life as a new high-school student. Because she's cute, she was ostracized by her female friends in junior high, and because of a misunderstanding, she couldn't get her feeling across to the one boy she has always liked, Tanaka-kun.

Now in high school, she is determined to be as unladylike as possible so that her friends won't be jealous of her. While living her life this way contentedly, she meets Tanaka-kun again, but he now goes under the name of Mabuchi Kou. He tells her that he felt the same way as she did when they were younger, but now things can never be the same again. Will Futaba be able to continue her love that never even started from three years ago?

Idol Shopping © Hwang MiRee/Samyang
Published in Indonesia by Gramedia/m&c!

The Biatch Teacher© and Seo GaYoon are engaged?! Kang Song Yie's heart shatters upon hearing the news. It is up to the so-called playboy prince to piece the shards back, and for that he will have to concoct a plan that would do even Machiavelli, Niccolò di Bernardo dei proud.

Meanwhile, Hwang SeRyun suspects Kang Song Yie is not who s/he seems and tries his best to split the couple permanently. He'll have problems as not long after, someone kidnaps him AND Song Yie!

These twists are sooo classic Hwang MiRee, I'm almost afraid to pick up the latest Idol Shopping. But don't let my misgivings prevent you from getting and whizzing through the entire volume 9 in under thirty minutes. (Yes, I'm serious mode ON! here.)

New m&c! manga and manhwa

Aikawa Saki's 16 Life series double launches and Fujimoto Yuuki's (Family, Some Dead) Song For My Sweet Home, as well as Romo's (Pricey Patissier's confection) Vanilla Frosting premiere. It's obvious which (Cinderella story) Imma subject to the spotlight:

16 Life 1 of 2 by Aikawa Saki

Kajiura Saya loves to sing and fortunately, she can more than carry a tune. In spite of her tuneful warblings, though, she has no wish to become a diva like her talented (and famous) elder sister.

One day, as Saya is singing in a karaoke box (alone — hitokara?), a guy named Takase Kazuki barges in. He claims to be a music producer but a skeptical Saya gives him the brush-off. Her Exit, Stage Left! is ruined when she accidentally steps on his glasses.

So to replace Takase's custom glasses (which cost 500 thousand yen), Saya has to work for Takase, singing whatever piece he shoves at her.

Baka-Updates Manga tags 16 Life Older Male Younger Female, in addition to the expected Music, Celebrities, Showbiz, Singer, Debt.

I preview the second 16 Life tank after the release list.

Mangazine: Cherry 54/2011 - Happy Sixth Anniversary!

Cherry 54/2011 (m&c!)

7 Cenchi!
© Nanajima Kana
Shogakukan [ChuChu]

The sixth anniversary edition of Cherry (Indonesian Sho-Comi/Ciao/ChuChu/Flowers) promises a lucky winner an invitation to a Cha no Yu at The Japan Foundation. Interested? If yes, GET! and write a unique Happy Anniversary greeting for Cherry. Wear a yukata when you go :D

I assumed last time that Nanajima Kana's 7 Centi! was close to wrapping because Cherry 53's Memory 9 installment came from 7 Cenchi! volume 3 of 3. 7 Centi! gracing the front cover this time strengthens that assumption (based on how m&c! usually features concluding series on the cover). If I'm wrong and it's not yet the finale, you get Memory 10, at the very least. Update: While Memory 10: Biar Kita Berpisah, Aku Tidak Kesepian!! (Hanare Banare demo Sabishikunai Mon!!?) does come from volume 3, it's not yet The End. What IS ending is Aoi Michiru's Super Sweet Honey, originally Sekai Seifuku ☆ Honey (Episode 4 this issue).

These other manga are continuing their serial runs: My Lovely Class Leader by Nishimura Tomoko (Episode 28 taken from Gokujou!! Mecha Mote Iinchou volume 9); Dawn Aria by Akaishi Michiyo (Episode 31 from Akatsuki no ARIA volume 9); I am not a Maid! by Iwaoka Meme (Episode 4 from Maid ja Naimon! volume 1); and Yomogi Loves Money? by Arai Kiyoko (Episode 5 from Yomogi Mochi Yaketa? volume 1). There's also Cold Love Pattern (Samugari na Koi Moyou), an Extra to Morita Yuki's She, Between He and Me/Kare to Kanojo to Kanojo.

Capping this sixth magaversary are sneak peaks into a couple of local KOLONI comics: The Butterfly Ink by Wina Oktavia dan Annisa Fadila Yusuf (Chapter 01 Yang Terbang, Yang Tak Mau Ditinggalkan) and My Premium Girl by H-San, both of which premiered last January.

[RE-STO]: I sed when Song of Love 8 of 8 streeted that it's not too late to invest in Fujita Maki's Eden no Trill series. Here's corroboration: m&c! restocks Song of Love volumes 1 through 7 this release.

Until Death Do Us Part 7, Soul Eater 8, Team Medical Dragon 17 (Level Comics 28 June 2011 manga) [UPDATED]

And...Dun, dun, dun, DUN!... Death's Notice 7!
Sawry for the NikBabble™ delay; there's a LOT of Level Comics to get through. (That's your Hella Long! warning.)

Until Death Do Us Part 7 (Level Comics)

Mission Exterminate Assassins in Shinjukugyoen, Start-OH!, and who should get in Mamoru's face but Detective Genda. In this inevitable badass showdown, which swordsman will prevail?

Observes Until Death do us Part editor Lenny-san: The Full action & technology! spares no one, not even Haruka; she leaps into the Volume 7: Girl meets...... crossfire armed with what Mamoru taught her ^^

Lenny-san likewise edits the also Full of fighting scenes! Soul Eater, Level's next Most Wanted manga separated from UDDUP by one point (my vote ^^).

Soul Eater 8 of 19+ by Ohkubo Atsushi

The SPSS (DWMA) mandates meisters and weapons to study Duel Arts to prep for combat against the first Kishin and the Arachnophobia syndicate. But resonance hiccups result in training #Fail.

Meanwhile, Medusa soul's survives Stein's death blow and resurfaces in a new body.

Lenny-san promises that we get Awesome! Death The Kid action in this tank (see »Wiki's summary for a sneak peek at asymmetriphobic DTK's virtuosity). Also, the Shinigama–Witch clot, errr, plot, deepens ^_^

Soul Eater 8 compiles chapter 28 through 31: Bodyguard (Part 2), Snake and Reunion Express (Part 1 and 2). [*NOT Level's chapter titles]

The third top DO WANT!—Team Medical Dragon 17—yes, also edited by Ganbariya-san Lenny-san, making 6.28 a Lenny trifecta, is previewed behind the cut, along with seven other starred series.

New Level manga: Kowloon's Seekers

Kowloon's Seekers 1 (Level Comics)

Shin Kijou no Kowloon

Shinchosha [Comic Bunch]
Published in Indonesia
as Kowloon's Seekers
by Level Comics

Mid-21st century. Tsukueda Kyu is a seeker living in Neo Kowloon. Raised by the genetically engineered rabbit, Rabbi, Kyu hunts for missing ‘goods’ and ‘hearts’ in Tokyo, along with his animal sidekick slash parent.

Little do Kyu and Rabbi expect their next seeker case to pit them against Monk, a genius chimpanzee with big Annihilate humans! schemes. A chimp modified by Professor Moro, the same (mad) scientist who tweaked Rabbi.

Lenny-san (*grin*) deems this new science fiction/detective series a must for 20th Century Boys and Monster fans. Why? Explains an unidentified Elex Media editor: writer Nagasaki Takashi collaborates with Urasawa Naoki on Monster and Billy Bat. Nagasaki Takashi-sensei was also among the planning staff of the live-action 20th Century Boys movie, as well as supervisor of the Monster anime for Studio Bee.

Meanwhile, manga-ka Aoki Tomo-sensei has more shoujo than seinen manga among his/her backlist (Fushigi Doushiden Hakke no Sora, Ryuuyou-kun Shimatsu Ki and the ongoing Sangokushi Joker, all first serialized in Akita Shoten's Mystery Bonita horror comics magazine).

Baka-Updates Manga identifies the 2002.12-vintage Kijou no Kuryuu or Kijou no Kowloon as the prequel to Kowloon's Seekers. I wonder, though, whether the latter is truly a continuation; I lean more to a reworking, I don't know why. Kijou no Kowloon was published by Shogakukan (Big Comics Special imprint) while Kowloon's Seekers was published by Shinchosha (Comic Bunch Extra imprint).

Lenny-san's GET! parting shot: Kyu and Rabbi solve cases not only with logic and deduction, but also with liver heart ♡. The poignant backstories don't lose out to the exciting cases >0<

Other Elex newbies: Another Doraemon Movie manga

Aside from Chinmi Other Story: Chinmi & Shie Fan, Elex double-launches Doraemon Movie: Nobita & Pahlawan Bersayap (First and Last) by Fujiko F. Fujio, based on the 2001 movie, Doraemon: Nobita and the Winged Braves (Nobita to tsubasa no yūsha-tachi).

Nobita, desiring to fly, DIYs some kewl wings. While testing his invention, he crashes into bird man Gusuke who suddenly appears in the same sky. Giant and Suneo try to capture Gusuke and are trapped in a dimension tunnel, prompting Nobita, Doraemon and Shizuka to chase the pair all the way to the bird people's home world.

What adventures will Nobita and friends find in Birdpia?

Well, for one, they will have to locate the legendary hero Icarus to save Birdpia from General Jigrid and a Phoenician assault.

Also, look forward to the final story of Yohan, Minje and Empyo in Hwang MiRee's Want You (previewed after the release list).

Looking for it

I feel as though, for the past ten years (?!) I have flitted from flower head to cat's nose, rarely missing a beat. Especially while I was doing the PAD project. Don't get me wrong, today I look back at many (most) of my photos and fall in love with them all over again... and wonder if it was really me who took that picture. It almost felt easy.

So... now the hard work begins? Is that where I find myself today? I can't accept that. On some days, I feel as though there's a photograph "right there"... just out of my line of sight. If I could just turn my head in the right direction or stand up to peer over whatever obstacle is blocking my view, then "it" will be there, ready and waiting for me to bring the camera to my eye.

"Photographic technique is no secret and – provided the interest is there – easily assimilated. But inspiration comes from the soul and when the Muse isn’t around even the best exposure meter is very little help. In their biographies, artists like Michelangelo, da Vinci and Bach said that their most valuable technique was their ability to inspire themselves. This is true of all artists; the moment there is something to say, there becomes a way to say it." - Ralph Gibson

Refresher Course

I am suffering from a severe lack of creative inspiration. I think the hot weather plays a role (for me), as I've mentioned this before during the summer months.

I'm going to have to get back into photo-shape if I'm going to take part in the SoFoBoMo project next month. So... what to do? Focus (pardon the pun) on a specific subject for at least a "roll of film"?

Today, I've pulled out my copy of "Once" by Wim Wenders... looking for a spark, a nudge, an idea.

Lina-chan snap reviews manga just released: When Love is Blooming and My Life vol 3

All these shoujo manga streeted on 22nd June 2011.

1) When Love is Blooming by Shiumi Saki

When Love is Blooming (m&c!)

Rating: 7 of 10

Kisahnya masih merupakan lanjutan dari When Love is Growing.
