Synopsis
At the crime scene, a full-course meal is laid out on the table. The perp deliberately spent time and effort preparing the meal — which includes the victim as one of the courses! Juvie turned homicide detective aide Asuma Eiji uses his psychometry on the suspects but his power to visualize the details of crimes fails him. With Eiji unable to identify the culprit, the case comes to a dead end — in more ways than one!
On initial read, the Psych Eiji blurb did nothing so much as remind me of a Detective School Q episode (episode 22: Shisha no Dinnā
or Dinner of the Dead). Which is probably no coincidence, given that storywriter Ando Yuma also does business as Amagi Seimaru (who penned Tantei Gakuen Q), in addition to also using pseudonyms Agi Tadashi (The Drops of God) and Aoki Yuya (Get Backers).
And considering the almost hopeless tone of the synopsis, Eiji and Ryoko are looking very *cough* lovey-dovey *cough* relaxed, aren't they?
The Psychometrer Eiji manga was also adapted into live-action renzoku drama. Alternatively known as Simply Psychic, it ran for two seasons on NTV (January to March 1997 and October to December 1999). A one-episode, 45-minute anime OAV Eiji was released in August 1990.
