Today - 6 October 2011, our human rights record comes under examination by the United Nations as we face our first ever Universal Periodic Review.
Over the last few months a 17 member coalition of leading organisations have worked hard under the 'Your Rights. Right now' banner to hear our voice and ensure that diplomatic representatives in Geneva are fully informed about the situation in Ireland.
Today sees Minister Alan Shatter defend Ireland's human rights record in a three hour hearing at UN headquarters.
