The Ruler of Nabari 13, Wild Life 13, Red Haired Snow White 4 (Elex Media 9 February 2011 manga)

Also, the return of The Tyr Chronicles. After more than one year of waiting, here's volume 4 of the sonyun manhwa.

The Ruler of Nabari 13 (Elex)

Nabari no Ou © Kamatani Yuhki/Square Enix
[Serialized in GFantasy]
Published in Indonesia as The Ruler of Nabari by Elex Media

Confrontation looms inevitable between Koichi, who wants to lose his immortality at any price, and Raimei, who rejects the use of the Shinrabanshô. Meanwhile, Tobari Kumohira Durandal has finished developing the Zekû, the art that will detach the Shinrabanshô from Miharu's body. But before using it, Tobari relates the truth about the events that occurred 10 years ago, events that everyone involved has “forgotten”. [Translated from the French Asuka Editions' Nabari tome 13 summary]

So The Ruler of Nabari 13 continues the To the Place that Memories Return arc begun in the preceding volume. Need I say, Don't miss this? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Oh, and if you feel you can't have enough Miharu (and Yoite), you might want to ask Kinokuniya Jakarta if it has any plans of bringing in 隠の王公式ガイド+ドラマCD-al fine- GUIDE BOOK. The Nabari no Ou: The Hidden Formula Guide + Drama CD -al fine- released in Japan last January. Find Nabari no Ou character profiles and an interview with the manga-ka in the guide book, an original drama—screenplay by Kamatani Yuhki-sensei—in the enclosed drama CD.

Red Haired Snow White 4 of 5+ by Akizuki Sorata

(I blurb DO WANT! First Runner-up Wild Life 13 Below the Cut; reserving this blog real estate for releases that have been out of circulation for half a year or more — and Red Haired Snow White definitely qualifies on that count.)

Just like Zen, Shirayuki has no qualms endangering herself for the sake of others; Zen tops the long list of people she would plunge headlong into to protect. To keep the girl he likes safe, Zen decides to tell Shirayuki just what she means to him.

[SPOILAGE INCOMING!] (Click, if you must)

Zen kisses Shirayuki in chapter 13. (Let the fangirly squees begin.)

Legend of Nereid 15 of 15 by Hwang MiRee

Before I get to the new Elex titles, concluding series first, and for this sked, that's Hwang MiRee's Legend of Nereid: Matia exerts every effort to stop the war and persuade Thaion to withdraw his troops. Meanwhile, General Themedes realizes that Matia is not the doom of the kingdom, as the oracle Atropa prophesized.

NEW ELEX TITLES: Hitohira and Witch Hunter

A pair of new series: Shy Girl turned thespian-troped Hitohira by Kirihara Idumi and (the self-explanatory) Witch Hunter by Cho JungMan. Of the two debuts, Witch Hunter nailed more GET! votes, so previewing that here. (At any rate, you already know what Hitohira is all about from the anime—OK, OK, that synopsis is below the cut.)

by Elex Media

Two-thirds of the known world falls under the domination of witches. They summon monster Supporters who obey even the least of their whims, and under orders, destroy everything in their path.

Unable to understand the reason for this murderous fury, humans call forth the Witch Hunters — fighters with extraordinary powers — to vanquish the threat.

Tasha Gospel, nicknamed The Magic Marksman, is one of the most powerful witch exterminators. Along with his sidekick Jack-O-Lantern Supporter, Halloween, Tasha fights the witches, much to his sorrow as he cannot bring himself to hate his foes... [Adapted from Ki-Oon's Witch Hunter Tome 1 description and Wikipedia's write-up]

nik sez... Tasha not hating witches seems weird juxtaposed against his quest to find the witch who killed his father. Perhaps the fact that the murdering witch is his own li'l sis has something to do with it?

C.M.B. 14, One Piece 56, With My Brothers 10 (Elex 26 January 2011 manga)

C.M.B. 14 (Elex)

C.M.B. Shinra Hakubutsukan no Jiken Mokuroku © Katou Motohiro
Kodansha [Serialized in Monthly Shonen Magazine]
Published in Indonesia as C.M.B. by Elex Media Komputindo

A—may—zing. Despite One Piece 56's appearance in this Elex manga release, DO WANT! votes for Katou Motohiro's C.M.B. 14 came in just that slight bit faster and ultimately, edged out the highest-selling manga in the history of Weekly Shonen Jump from the premier Must-Have spot. The jockeying for position was made even more compelling by the fact that One Piece was assaulted on another front by a relatively low-key shoujo manga—With My Brothers—no less.

What this GET! one-upmanship indicates, I leave up to you to infer. My job is to blurb.

And in C.M.B. 14, Mou demands a photograph of a butterfly as her payment for the recent organ case. Not just any old butterfly, mind you; Mou wants an immortalization of the Colias imperialis — of which only eight specimens have been found since discovery 150 years ago. The search for the ninth super rare butterfly takes Shinra to Argentina, a country once steeped in the violence of military terror. (This summary apparently refers to Op.36: World's End that first appeared in the 2009.12 Monthly Shonen Magazine, if I read the C.M.B. Japanese Wiki article right.)

One Piece 56 of 61+ by Oda Eiichiro

Meanwhile, in the besieged One Piece 56, subtitled Thank You, time is fast running out for Luffy, tracking down the heavily-guarded Ace with Ivankov. As Luffy forges ahead, out of Impel Down, war threatens to shake the world, and Ace's execution draws nigh. Will Shirohige come to the rescue?

With My Brothers 10 of 11 by Tokeino Hari

As for With My Brothers 10, Tsuyoshi's dream of owning his own café comes true; unfortunately, customers are staying away because of rumors of a ghost haunting the premises. Elsewhere, Sakura becomes the bone of contention between Nana and Masashi, with Nana challenging the older man for the prize of 10 dates with Sakura.

Only one more tankou to go. Good, given that With My Brothers didn't get to conclude in HanaLaLa, may it requiescat in pace.

Reissues

After Conan, Elex reissues box sets for Eyeshield 21 (volumes 1-10 and 11-20) and One Piece (volumes 21-30 and 31-40). This is the third such rerelease. For those who come to collecting late, each value bundle now carries a price tag of IDR 160,000.

[Shonen Sunday]

Barely a week passes before Elex lobs the next Shonen Star issue at us. The second Indonesian Shonen Sunday of the year trains the spotlight on Minagawa Ryouji's action/adventure D-LIVE!! and the exploits of its MacGyver of vehicles star.

A gang of smugglers kidnap Satoru and his school friends and whisk them away to the uninhabited island of Gunkanjima, where death awaits. Not about to yield without a fight, Satoru eyes a battered Super Cub motorbike as the perfect vehicle to free his pals. The only problem: how to hide his identity as an ASE driver from his friends.

Shonen Star 2/2011 also premieres Arai Takahiro's ARAGO (ARAGO / AR∀GO - London Shikei Tokushu Hanzai Sousakan), a supernatural action mystery that stars twins Arago and Ewan—whose parents were killed by monsters—at cross purposes, with Arago driven to pursue revenge, and Ewan on the side of the law and the streets of London as the battlefield. [Adapted from Baka-Updates Manga's AR∀GO - London Shikei Tokushu Hanzai Sousakan description]

The rest of the the ShoStars: Defense Devil by Youn InWan & Yang KyungIl, Detektif Conan by Aoyama Gosho, D-LIVE!! by Minagawa Ryouji, Dr. Koto by Yamada Takatoshi, Inuyasha by Takahashi Rumiko, Kekkaishi by Tanabe Yellow, Magical Iroha by Inoue Kazurou, My First Mr. Akuno by Fujiki Syun (volume 3 also streets on 1.19), Takkoku!!! by Fukuchi Tsubasa, Wild Life by Fujisaki Masato and Yakitate!! Japan by Hashiguchi Takashi

Did Adachi Mitsuru's Katsu!—the featured serial in Shonen Star 1/2011—already end? Is that why it's no longer on the cover line-up?

Naruto 50, Wild Life 12, Pirates and the Mermaid 1 by Kiuchi Tatsuya (Elex Media 12 January 2011 manga)

Pirates & the Mermaid 1 (Elex Media)

Kaizoku to Ningyo © Kiuchi Tatsuya/Hakusensha
[Serialized in Hana to Yume]
Published in Indonesia as Pirates & the Mermaid by Elex Media

Before I get to Pirates & the Mermaid—and yes, it IS Mermaid, typo on the cover notwithstanding—Sasuke and Naruto 50: Underwater Deathmatch!! first.

Sasuke attacks the Kage convention, but despite activating Amaterasu and Susanoo, remains hard-pressed to defeat the reps from the most powerful ninja villages. Meanwhile, in the midst of the Sasuke chaos, Uchiha Madara appears and reveals a terrible plan to the Kage.

As for the DO WANT! First Runner-up —

Wild Life 12 of 27 by Fujisaki Masato

Between transferring from RED to Meio University, Tessho conducts a massive purge — this after seeing Meio patients coming down with acute gastritis. This greatly stresses out Dean Heinami, especially when Tessho declares the outbreak to be nosocomial, or infections originating within the hospital.

NEW ELEX SERIES: Pirates & the Mermaid, the reissued Doraemon and Kindaichi Special Case: Snow Spirit Murder

Elex reissues the Doraemon manga in the original right-to-left Japanese binding and premieres the fourth Kindaichi Special Case: Snow Spirit Murder by Amagi Seimaru & Sato Fumiya, which from its title is (doh-obvious) about a murderous “snow ghost.” I suggest getting this as the second and final volume streets on the 19th.

The third debut is, of course —

Pirates & the Mermaid 1 of 3+ by Kiuchi Tatsuya

The people of his village sell off Hisui to a wealthy merchant collector of rare and beautiful items for money. Chained and treated no better than a chachki, Hisui rebels and tries to make a break for it. During his escape, Hisui bumps into a pirate after the merchant's prize “mermaid.” Hearing of the pirate's intent, Hisui feels his getaway growing worthless.

What in the world is happening? What is Hisui's connection to this “mermaid”?

You might've already heard of Kaizoku to Ningyo because concentration on this Pirates and Mermaid series has resulted in Kiuchi Tatsuya-sensei's historical shoujo romance Honey Flower's hiatus at volume 3.
