Bleach 28, Another Kingdom 2 of 2, Shanimuni GO 30 (m&c! manga out now)

Filled in the manga cover blanks, as demanded by ayu-chan

Another Kingdom 2 (m&c!)

Another Kingdom © Fujita Maki/Akita Shoten (First serialized in Mystery Bonita)
Published in Indonesia by PT Gramedia/m&c!

Contains [SPOILERS!]

Hai, hai, I know the Bleach domination (pro tem) ends this week, but I thought I'd abstain from leading with it for the sixth time so's I can spotlight a bishie megane kyara other than our favorite Quincy: kotodama-tsukai Yatou Kaname from Another Kingdom, one of three series concluding this week.

In the final volume of Fujita Maki's semi-horror fantasy, Reikan-chan Hatsuse Nanao still looks as yummy to demons and specters of Japanese folklore, but now she has bodyguards—the not at all human but terribly huggy Akajita and half-and-half Yatou who's not—to get her out of scrapes, most of which she herself rushes headlong into.

But when Shii—Yatou's attacker from six years ago—reappears before our Monster Busters, can Nanao and her guardians withstand the assault?

Another Kingdom volume 2 contains chapters 5 through 8: Akajita, Gedoh, Ikka, and Shii (thanks to Aerandria × Enchantment Scans for the titles). And now that the Mystery Bonita serial's Indonesian run has ended, perhaps m&c! will resume amortization on Song of Love (Eden no Trill, also by Fujita Maki-sensei).

by PT Gramedia/m&c!

Unfazed by the desert vastness of Hueco Mundo, Ichigo, Chad, and Ishida rush towards Las Noches, Aizen's castle HQ, to rescue Orihime. Along the way, they encounter three Hollows chasing a kid. Who is this mysterious tot?

Yeah, yeah, I know you know it's Nel Tu and her pursuers, “brothers” Pesche Guatiche and Dondochakka and their pet Bawabawa. I'm sure you also know that the reason for Arrancar #103 Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio's cover stint is that Ichigo, Ishida, and Chad (joined by Rukia and Renji) will be engaging the Privaron Espada, Arrancar elite stripped their rank, in combat. Because, as pointed out in VIZ's Bleach 28 description, the disgraced Arrancar... see destroying Ichigo and his friends as a way to redeem their honor.

Shanimuni GO 30 of 32 by Ragawa Marimo

Meanwhile, in the shoujo TeniPuri (although Your Mileage May Vary):

Rui and Shun take the court in the men's singles finals. Who will prevail? In another court, Nobuhisa and Shizuka's match enters the third set, with Nobuhisa on the offensive.

Which player will Hinako end up supporting?

The other concluding duo and the sole new manga are after the manga list.

Find a New Love by Sugiyama Miwako

Newbie Anta Nante Okotowari! is another standalone from Royal Green and Three Star Love Days manga-ka Sugiyama Miwako:

Ogura Yui has just had her heart broken and instead of launching herself past the Despair Event Horizon (or more mildly, assuming the fetal position in Tamaki's Corner of Woe), goes off to Find A New Love. In her fresh romance “quest,” Yui exchanges home for the Wakaba School Dorm, haven of guys who are just... weird, the oddest one being Naruse Kaoru, the dorm head.

Fortunately for Yui, Kaoru is as bishie as he is strange and annoying, leading Yui to wonder if perhaps she has found her new love.

Scanlator Nagareboshi Manga (via Baka-Updates Manga) points out the reason for Yui's rather drastic broken heart medication: the person she loves is her Not Blood Older Sib with whom Yui lives who ups and gets married on her. So it's not so much that Yui's doing an Anri (the goes after boys like there's no tomorrow protagonist of Sugiyama Miwako-sensei's Love Chaser), like I first assumed when I read m&c!'s back cover blurb. The oniichan angle also explains why Baka-Updates users tagged the shoujo romance Brother Complex, in addition to Dorms and Bishounen.

Nekomachi Shop Guide 2 of 2 by Sakamoto Miku [Finale]

Welcome to the Nekomachi Apartments. Here, two brothers—Kanade and Hibiki—run a fashion boutique specializing in bags. Polar opposites in terms of design and disposition, can Kanade and Hibiki set their differences aside long enough to win a contest?

Other Sakamoto Miku manga: Prisoner of the Heart/Toraware Gokko, Nadeshiko Club, and Gokuraku Smile.

Tengu-Do 3: Master by Nikolavitch · Rossetto [Finale]

Having triumphed in countless battles and thinking he'd won the keys to the future, the Ronin decides to leave years of fighting behind, and takes time to rest and recuperate in a farming village. But a warrior is a warrior, and the horror he'd thought vanquished rears its head anew; a gigantic bird appears, portending strife.

Is the avian monster a herald of the Tengu, long held harbingers of war? Time or fate, which is the master of the other? The Ronin once more places his fate and faith in his sword skills.

[With additions from Amazon France's description of the same volume]

For all its feudal Japan ambience with talk of (Non-Black Bird) tengu and ronin, this manga-esque series by Alex-Nikolavitch Racunica and Andrea Rossetto is actually an AMERO comic—Tengu do, N° 3: Maître—originally published by Les Humanoïdes Associés France.

The Princess Bouquet 2 of 3 by Aomata Pink

Three princes—Kaoru, Yutaka, and Suku—live and work at Château La Fleur. Each conceals heartache, but strives to bring delight into the lives of the flower shop customers with beautiful blooms.

Little happinesses accrue and the flower princelings' fates start to reshape.

Synopsis

I see dead people...

Hatsuse Nanao has been “gifted” with the ability to see ghostly apparitions. Into her problematic (not to mention, crowded) life comes Yatou and Akajita, vowing to protect her. But is a love triangle possible in the midst of ectoplasm?

Nanao (and Yatou's) backstory is better explicated here.

According to scanlators Aerandria & Enchantment Scans, this volume contains chapters:

  1. Kotodama - Tsukai
  2. Fuguruma Youji
  3. Mirror of Hari
  4. Hashi-Hime

Nik babble, STARTO!: So this is Fujita Maki-sensei's fourth shoujo series to be distributed in Indonesia, after the Elex-released Platinum Garden and The World is Yours (Sekai wo Ageyou), and m&c!'s (ongoing) Song of Love (Eden no Trill) manga. As I noted in the main m&c! post, Another Kingdom is shaping up to be a different organism from the equally paranormal Platinum Garden (which features resurrections) and the No restless spirits here, unless they're the figurative kind! Song of Love.

While Baka-Updates Manga slots Another Kingdom alongside Death Note in its You might also like... recommendation, I personally think this supernatural shoujo series—that m&c! bills a semi-horror fantasy—is gonna give Shiomi Chika's Rasetsu's Flower and/or Kawaguchi Madoka's From the Other World healthy competition. In whichever case—Death Note, Rasetsu no Hana, or Shi to Kanojo to Boku—it's a GET!

Bleach 23, Another Kingdom 1 by Fujita Maki, Shanaou Yoshitsune volumes 13-17 box set (m&c! 5 May 2010 manga)

Bleach 23 (m&c!)

Bleach © Kubo Tite/Shueisha (Serialized in Shonen Jump)

Contains [SPOILERS!]
(Don't say I didn't warn you.)

m&c! continues its Bleach streak, releasing volume 23: Mala Suerte! only a week after volume 22, to the thunderous approbation of Bleach fanboys/fangirls everywhere. (Or in Indonesia, at least.)

Synopsis: Mala Suerte! (Bad Luck) picks up the Arrancar invasion of Karakura chou whence Conquistadores left off, and 11th Division 3rd Seat Madarame Ikkaku's cover boy stint broadly hints at the introduction of the commissioned Shinigami into the fray. But before the Soul Reaper officer sees action, Chad first faces an assault from Arrancar Number 16 D-Roy Linker and is rescued by Ichigo. Rukia, using her restored Shinigami powers, defeats the Arrancar, but loses to Sexta Espada Grimmjow Jeagerjaques (or Jaegerjaquez), the sixth-strongest of all Arrancar.

Arrancar 13 Edorad Leones also attacks one of Ichigo's friends, who is subsequently saved by Ikkaku and fellow squad member Ayasegawa Yumichika. Ikkaku at first is overpowered by the Arrancar and his zanpakutou, forcing the 11th Division's second strongest to... (You can read the rest of this adapted from Wikipedia synopsis here.)

NEW TITLES: Another Kingdom, Meet the Banchou, and Sinful Love

m&c! premieres two new manga series—Another Kingdom by Fujita Maki and Meet the Banchou (Kongoh Bancho) by Suzuki Nakaba—and one standalone anthology, Sinful Love (Tsumi Koi), by Yoshinaga Yuu.

Another Kingdom by Fujita Maki

Efon O

DO WANT!

Fujita Maki's Another Kingdom is a short (only two volumes) supernatural series that's not quite Platinum Garden (despite the paranormal bouquet) and definitely nowhere near Fujita-sensei's Song of Love/Eden no Trill in terms of plot bunnies. Baka-Updates Manga citizens actually recommend thinking along the lines of Death Note for comparison, the demons/ghosts reasons for which are apparent in the adapted series description below:

The singular ability to see ghosts and demons since she was a child has effectively marginalized school girl Hatsuse Nanao, making her the helpless target of alienating gossip. Rumors about her powers even follow her all the way to high school. Unwilling to feed the speculation more fuel, Nanao ditches classes, only to encounter a mysterious little boy who not only knows her name but also insists on latching on to her for a day. While trying to find out more about her new companion, Nanao runs into classmate Yatou Kaname, who deigns to house the pair for one night.

Who is the odd little boy? And why does Yatou shun even the thought of specters and spirits? Nanao will have to delve into her own past and that of Yatou's to uncover the answers. [Adapted from Baka-Updates Manga's Another Kingdom synopsis]

I don't know about you, but rather than Death Note, I'm getting Rasetsu's Flower and From the Other World (Shi to Kanojo to Boku) vibes here.

The Meet the Banchou and Sinful Love synopses be after the m&c! release lists.

Shanaou Yoshitsune 13-17 (m&c!)

The third round of the Shanaou Yoshitsune box sets gives us volumes 13 through 17, and with only a quintet reissued, the suggested retail price drops to IDR 74,000. Now, don't scoff at that IDR 200 reduction from the standard IDR 15,000/volume; I hear Sawada Hirofumi-sensei's award-winning samurai adventure (whose sequel Shanaou Yoshitsune Genpei War premiered 4.28) is worth whatever you pay for it.

Blurble (blurb and babble) continued...

Meet the Banchou 1

Kongoh Bancho金剛番長 」 by Suzuki Nakaba

Meet the Banchou, which also goes by the alias Diamond Delinquent, is another Shonen Sunday serial from Suzuki Nakaba-sensei who also created Blizzard Axel. (Though going solely by the series' covers, it would take a leap to conclude they're both the brainchildren of one manga-ka).

Kongoh Bancho © Suzuki Nakaba/
Shogakukan (Shonen Sunday)

But then the harder-edged, sharply-angular art (and how!) of Kongoh Bancho simply stays true to its badass gang leader theme. TV Tropes' Kongoh Bancho entry offers this description of series protagonist Kongoh Akira that's pure LMAO: a ten-to-twelve-foot-tall mountain of muscle with incredibly spiky Anime Hair, mile-wide shoulders, and a stare that could cut bread. (You can confirm the snark with the cover on the left.)

TV Tropes' blurb for this series is also the most wonderful around, so I'm also borrowing it for here:

After a series of misadventures involving a young girl named Hinako Sakura, who has a compulsion to take pictures of things that are “sooooo unusual” with her cell phone's camera, and her younger sister Tsukimi, in which he demonstrates his incredible strength and resilience (as well as his capacity for kindness and understanding), Kongoh reveals his reasons for his sudden appearance: He has come to stop something called “The 23 District Project”. This involves people called “Bancho”, people who have exceptional fighting skills as well as great amounts of charisma ... fighting for control of the 23 districts of Japan. (The word “bancho” itself is usually used to refer to the leader of a delinquent gang, and all Bancho wear Japanese school uniform jackets, in one form or another.) Whosoever conquers them all will be given control of Japan and will be able to mold its future to their liking.

He later ends up defeating one of the Bancho - Iai Bancho, a master of iaijutsu. He is then told that defeating a bancho means you gain their territory and are now part of the 23 District Project, whether you want to be or not, and is given his new title by his defeated opponent: Kongoh Bancho.

Sinful Love

Tsumi Koi罪恋 」 by Yoshinaga Yuu

There are six stories in the Tsumi Koi anthology that—if I can believe Google's translation—represents Yoshinaga Yuu-sensei's Flower Comics debut. The last is an epilogue to the titular Sinful Love, which (according to Baka-Updates Manga) is the story of school girl Yashiro who becomes increasingly infatuated with popular classmate Maki (whom she saw with a girl not his girlfriend). To liven up her boring life, she decides to become his “lover.” Yup, that's her “love crime.”

The other stories are: Until I Fall in Love, Let's Meet in Dream!, Tears of Goldfish, and Love Spell.
