hanging on, letting go

I am having mixed emotions about saying goodbye to 2008. It was, at its end, a horribly sad year... and yet the final, precious memories reside within its days and months.

Happy Holidays!

See you next year!

Quote of the Day

"My father just let my family and I know, amongst others that he had another child after my little sister Aliana, or maybe he had it before Aliana?? Either way, he cheated on my mother and that really sucks," - Lindsay Lohan

Rihanna to Rock Out at Charity Inaugural Ball

On January 20th the songstress will headline the Recording Industry Association of America's charity ball benefiting Feeding America. She'll be joining the likes of Will Smith who says he will also be in D.C. for the Inauguration. ""We'll go there and just cry - probably two, three days in a row. Just lots of crying. We'll probably cheer a lot, too," he told reporters at the L.A. premiere of Seven Pounds.

FaLaLaLaLa

fading

We know nothing of this going away, that
shares nothing with us. We have no reason,
whether astonishment and love or hate,
to display Death, whom a fantastic mask

of tragic lament astonishingly disfigures.
Now the world is still full of roles which we play
as long as we make sure, that, like it or not,
Death plays, too, although he does not please us.

But when you left, a strip of reality broke
upon the stage through the very opening
through which you vanished: Green, true green,
true sunshine, true forest.

We continue our play. Picking up gestures
now and then, and anxiously reciting
that which was difficult to learn; but your far away,
removed out of our performance existence,

sometimes overcomes us, as an awareness
descending upon us of this very reality,
so that for a while we play Life
rapturously, not thinking of any applause.

Death Experience, Rainer Maria Rilke

Paris Who?

A few tidbits from Esquire about the oh-so-famous Paris Hilton we may not have known:

She only wears a dress once. Afterward she gives them to charities and they auction them off to help people with breast cancer, AIDS, and multiple sclerosis.

Although hard to believe, Hilton actually does work. She starts her morning at 7 a.m. making phone calls and says she works until 1 a.m.

She uses her fragrances to her advantage. With the help of the pheromones, it helps with the attraction.

Her grandma used to call her Marilyn Monroe, making her always aspire to be a blond icon ever since she was little.

Quote of the Day

"She's going to be onstage, she's doing All My Sons on Broadway. I've got some things planned tonight, I've been kind of surprising her throughout the week with things . . . I like romance, so you've got to think about these things, you've got to know the right thing and pay attention throughout the year. Know your lady — the flowers, what kind she likes." - Tom Cruise on wife Katie Holmes's 30th bday!

Guinness also have City Card that ties in with their picturesque Xmas TV Ad.

The Best of 2008

Thanks to New York's Daily News, they have put together some of this year's most memorable quotes from the mouths of, shall we say, some of our favorite celebs:

"You know what? I am actually not that much into voting. I think it's kind of crazy that a woman is running, because I think that women deal with a lot of emotions and menopause and PMS and stuff. Like, I'm so moody all the time. I know I couldn't be able to run a country 'cause I'd be crying one day and yelling at people the next day, you know?" - Brooke Hogan on her reality show.

"Jesus was persecuted, and I'm going to get persecuted, you know?" - Heidi Montag to USA Today.

"I cried my eyelashes off." - Oprah Winfrey on Barack Obama's win in November.

"This song is for the emotionally retarded. You might know a few people who fall into that category. God knows I do." - Madonna shortly after her divorce became public.

"Somebody needs to step up and get this young woman into some quality care - and I do not apologize one whit, not one second, for trying to make this happen." - Dr. Phil on Britney Spears.

"Chace is built like a porcelain doll. I don't even know if he bleeds. He might have been crafted by Mattel. He has, like, the teen-idol genome. He's...beautiful." - Penn Badgley on costar Chace Crawford.

"I think it's really artsy. It wasn't in a skanky way. Annie took, like, a beautiful shot, and I thought that was really cool. That's what she wanted me to do, and you can't say no to Annie. She's so cute. She gets this puppy-dog look and you're like 'Okay.'" - Miley Cyrus on her controversial photo shoot for Vanity Fair.

Madonna Pays Up

Madonna and ex-hubby Guy Ritchie have reached a divorce settlement in which Ritchie will receive an amount between $76 million and $92 million. This includes the value of their country home in Ashcombe in western England as well as Punchbowl, their London pub. The singing star cited Ritchie's "unreasonable behavior" as the cause. The two were recently granted a preliminary "quickie divorce."

Tom Cruise Admits He Has Flaws ... Sorta

I went back, and looked at [the interview], and it was interesting. I thought about it a lot. [It concerned] a subject matter that's important. It's something that's been debated in the public, and that's what it should be. [But that's] not as I intended. In looking at myself, I came across as arrogant ... I didn't communicate it in a way I wanted to communicate. Also, that's not the way I am. That's not the person I am." - Tom Cruise addresses his previous interview with Matt Lauer three years ago on the Today Show.

Irish Traveller Movement Light Projections

The 10th December, The International Day of Human Rights is always a big day, this year in particular as we commemorate 60 years of the UN Charter. The Irish Travellers Movement Light Projections in Dublin that evening were a timely reminder for those going home from work and late night shopping of the importance of the day and that Human Rights isn't just an issue for foreign climes but here at home too.

Frontline Street Detention

We mentioned Frontline City Card December Campaign in our last post. This week they brought that campaign to the street with significant effect. They reanacted a recent event that took place in Sudan and a detainee was strung to a pole on Grafton Street for two hours outside The Body Shop. He wore a large piece of wood hanging from around his neck bearing the Front Line message. This street event rocked more than a few folk back on their heels.

10 December International Day of Human Rights

Today is the 60th Anniversary of the UN Charter of Human Rights. Frontline which was founded in 2001 with the specific aim of protecting Human Rights Defenders at risk have a City Card Campaign currently running. They ask that you during the month sign an action card and visit their photographic exhibition at European House in Dawson Street which is open till Christmas Eve.

Tonight we are doing light projections for the Irish Traveller Movement to hightlight Human Rights for Irish Travellers. We will be playing a short video in a number of different city locations.

A Day in the Life of Strafford

On Saturday, Dec. 6, we had a successful fund-raiser for the Morrill Memorial & Harris Library in Strafford. A three-hour reception was held that also included a bake and wreath sale to benefit the library. The majority of the 35 photographs from A Day in the Life of Strafford were bid upon and dozens of copies of the DVD slide show were sold to raise over $1,000 for the library.

Copies of the $15 DVD are for still for sale at the library and Coburn's General Store in South Strafford. Or click here to place an order online.

The event went well due to all of the volunteer and financial help we had. Click here to read more about the project.

in dreams

A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper
Go to sleep. everything is all right.

I close my eyes, then I drift away
Into the magic night. I softly say
A silent prayer like dreamers do.
Then I fall asleep to dream my dreams of you.

In dreams I walk with you. in dreams I talk to you.
In dreams you're mine. all of the time were together
In dreams, in dreams.

But just before the dawn, I awake and find you gone.
I cant help it, I cant help it, if I cry.
I remember that you said goodbye.

Its too bad that all these things, can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams, in beautiful dreams.
~ Roy Orbison

City Card printing has got more eco-friendly

We have upped the ante on our printing again.

We now print on 75% post consumer recycled pulp with virgin fibre sourced from sustainable and managed forests. We currently use this mix rather than 100% recycled as it requires less heavy ink use. The board is chlorine free. We print with vegetable based inks and finish with water based varnish.

Our printing is FSC approved.

And did we tell you we are part of 1% for the Planet Alliance.

The Picture Works Pocket FilmsNew Media for 2009

We have some new media in the planning for 2009.
Here is a sneak preview of one. The Picture Works Pocket Films. The concept behind this is to make short films at music festivals, sports events or anywhere else that grabs your fancy and get these short films to the audiences mobile phones before they leave.

Our crew would produce, direct, film and edit at the event and with very quick turn around time would have the finished film available to distribute to the audience before they leave the event over the 3G network, Bluetooth transmission and through the web.

Pocket Films offers a sponsor a way to interact with its target market and provide a valuable digital memory or addition to the experience of the event. For this project we are working with Lionel Brouet, who is a film maker who has made a number of music films. Robert Plant recently described the DVD he made of The Festival in the Desert as ‘mind-altering’. Read the links below for more information.

We will have more details in the coming weeks but if you would like more information in the short term let us know.

Jameson Light Projections in New York

Yesterday Adage posted news of Jameson Light Projection Campaign that they are bringing to large cities across the country. We thought it might be of interest.

The Comeback Kid

What a way to ring in the new year with Ms. Britney Spears on the cover of Glamour's January issue!

What '08 has been like: “This whole year has been a hell of a year for me. I have been working so hard on my album, but…I didn’t know exactly where I stood with everyone.”

On mom Lynne: “We butt heads the most, but we understand each other the most, too.”

Brit's New Year's resolution: “I would like to stop worrying so much, because I worry all the time. And to learn how to be happier, just in general.”

What we may not know: “I don’t like going out. I hate clubs. I hate being around too many people. I love my home and staying in bed and watching Dancing With the Stars or reading a Danielle Steel novel.”

Five years from now: “In five years I would like to be married and have a father figure for my kids, someone who is a provider and can be really stable. It’s hard doing it on your own. ”

For more with Britney, pick up the January issue when it hits newsstands this month.
