Naruto 51, Wild Life 15, Yotsubato 10 (Elex Media 6 April 2011 manga) [UPDATED]

Also, Alice Academy 15 and not one, not two, but three series finales: Sanzoku Ou 13, Shade 3 and With My Brothers 11. Before you go checking 'em off the To Do List, check this out:

Naruto 51 (Elex Media)

Naruto © Kishimoto Masashi/Shueisha [Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump]
Published in Indonesia by Elex Media

May contain   [SPOILERS!]

Naruto, still troubled by Sakura's sudden love confession, finally learns the intent of his Konoha peers: the elimination of Sasuke. As if that weren't enough, our hero gets a new shock when he hears the five Kage's decision from Gaara.

But of course the reason for Naruto 51's Sasuke vs. Danzo!! subtitle is Sasuke's capture of Konoha leader Danzo with Madara's help. Curtains rise on Sasuke's Revenge, Act II. [Additions from Kana's Naruto, tome 51 description]

(VIZ's Naruto, Vol. 51: A Hokage's Resolve, meanwhile, clarifies Sasuke's objective: to interrogate [Danzo] about the Uchiha clan and what really happened between the political factions of Konoha and his brother, Itachi.)

Yotsuba&! 10 of 10+ by Azuma Kiyohiko

While daddy Koiwai works, Yotsuba plays house under his desk. Then inspired by picture books, Yotsuba asks for lessons on how to make pancakes.

The above summary refers to chapter 64: Yotsuba & Pancakes. The other stories in the latest Yotsuba&! 10: Yotsuba & Play (chapter 63); Yotsuba & Jumbo (65); Yotsuba & the Electronics Store (66); Yotsuba & Home Appliances (67); Yotsuba & Lies (68); and Yotsuba & the Re-encounter (69). These are *NOT* Elex Media's chapter titles, and if you want the lowdown on the other six chapters, go here.

☆ I mentioned the 4.06 finales at the top of the post, and for three endings, Elex has one beginning — Mokke, the Family, Monsters, Shaman, Sisters, Spirits seinen slice of life manga from Kumakura Takatoshi, originally serialized in Afternoon. That preview and the rest of the summaries are (waaay) below.

The Best Skilled Surgeon 4, Toradora 2, Ciuman Dewa 1 by Suzuki Julietta (Elex 22 December 2010 manga)

Ciuman Dewa 1 (Elex Media)

Kamisama Hajimemashita © Suzuki Julietta/Hakusensha [Serialized in Hana to Yume]
Published in Indonesia as Ciuman Dewa by Elex Media Komputindo

Before I get to Kamisama Hajimemashita—ultimately debuting in Indonesia as (Pfft!) Ciuman Dewa/A God's Kiss instead of Nice to Meet You, God—let's renew our acquaintance with Mikoto. Remember him?

Despite inevitable comparison with other surgical drama, namely Team Medical Dragon and Godhand Teru, Irie Kenzo- & Hashiguchi Takashi's shounen medical manga rates a credible, even among students of medicine.

A genius cardiac surgeon saves young Saijo Mikoto's life. Now grown-up and a pediatric surgeon in his own right, Mikoto dedicates his life to helping children similarly afflicted with congenital heart defects.

Mikoto succeeds in reopening the hospital's pediatric surgery unit, but that's only the beginning of his new challenges: an enemy who vows to take him down, a messed up system and diseases that push his expertise to the limits.

Find out how Mikoto strives to provide the best recovery for his patients in The Best Skilled Surgeon volume 4, finally streeting on the 22nd. (Reportedly earlier in Gramed Grand Indonesia.)

The manga adaptation of Takemiya Yuyuko's Toradora! light novel grabs the DO WANT! first runner up-ship.

Toradora! 2 of 4+ by Zekkou & Takemiya Yuyuko

Ryuuji who's crushing on Taiga's friend Minori matchmakes Taiga with his best bud Kitajima. At least, that was the plan. But schemes tend to #Fail and in ways least expected. Minorin has it in her head that Taiga and Ryuuji are a couple, and as if one misunderstanding weren't enough, Kitajima concurs.

See if the feared Dragon and Tiger can drag themselves out of depression in Toradora! 2.

Ciuman Dewa 1 of 8+ by Suzuki Julietta

Ciuman Dewa 1 - Part 1 excerpt (Elex Media)

[Ciuman Dewa preview from editor Nia-san]

No, no, Tomoe (on the right) isn't threatening Elex with dire retaliation for titling his shoujo manga starrer Ciuman Dewa (no matter how left-brained it is); the kitsunemimi'ed fox familiar's actually—wait, getting ahead of myself. Let's backtrack:

A string of disasters awaits poverty-stricken school girl Nanami. Not only does does a falling ladder (metaphorically) squash her flat, a cascading durian bops her on the head after.

In plot terms, Nanami is abandoned by her debtor father; what's worse, the kin-poor Nanami is booted out of her be it ever so rundown home.

So, of course, Nanami meets a (weird) bespectacled man who kisses her on the forehead and says he's giving her a place to stay. A reluctant Nanami trudges to the guy's home—which turns out to be a derelict shrine. There she meets a fox-eared bishounen and a pair of spirits who call her God.

VIZ Media's English Kamisama Hajimemashita, 1 description shortcuts it so well: Nanami has all kinds of new responsibilities she doesn't understand, dangers she's unaware of, and a cranky ex-familiar who's...actually pretty hot. What's a new-fledged godling to do?

Ciuman Dewa 1 - Part 3 excerpt (Elex Media)

[Preview from editor Nia Ika-san]

Yup, Nanami's Secret God Training START-OH! The new land god, instead of inheriting Komainu spirits—guardian dogs/lions, statues of which can often be found at shrine entrances—is landed with the foul-mouthed fox familiar Tomoe as her protector. (The former Shinto kami Mikage is dog-allergic.) And the only way to bind intractable Tomoe to Nanami is—you guessed it—with a God's Kiss. (That's the “docile” Tomoe after The Kiss that sealed his and Nanami's contract; here's what he really feels.)

So — Gods, Spirits, Fox Boys, Strong Female Lead, Master-Servant Relationship, Live-in Lover, Love-Hate Relationship. Baka-Updates Manga users add Tengu to the Kamisama Hajimemashita tag list because one karasu-tengu or crow tengu flits about (sometimes as an ostrich).

Suzuki Julietta's Ciuman Dewa shares the School Girl Gods/crabby but droolicious familiars trope and the promise of breath-stealing *doki-doki* with another Hakusensha shoujo manga, Tanaka Meca's Sweet God. Aside from Kamisama Hajimemashita, Suzuki Julietta-sensei created Devil & Sweet (volume 2 streets with Ciuman Dewa 1) and Karakuri Odette.

Meanwhile, Tai Fang lalu accompanies Zili to Lin'an to await the decision regarding Zili's fate.

Between Hui and Zhonglu, who will Zili choose?

QED 35, Skip Beat! 17, Hell Girl 7 (Elex Media 25 August 2010 manga)

Also, Detektif Conan Seri Animasi TV volume 22

Edit: Corrected the Q.E.D. 35 summary post read.

Q.E.D. 35 (Elex Media)

Q.E.D. Shomei Shuryo © Katou Motohiro/Kodansha (Serialized in Magazine E-no)
Published in Indonesia as Q.E.D. Quod Erat Demonstrandum by Elex Media Komputindo

Walking in on a burglary, freight company president Yoshimitsu Ryozo is bludgeoned unconscious in Two Suspects, half of the mysteries comprising Q.E.D. volume 35, streeting this Wednesday. Police suspect two Yoshimitsu employees: Mikawa Saburo who has racked up a formidable medical bill for his wife's hospital treatment and Kurose Yasumasa, up to his neck in gambling debts. Which of the two suspects will math wunderkind Toma Q.E.D. as the perp?

Christmas present, the second, more light-hearted story, has the school drama club getting some unlooked-for help staging its play from the mystery club.

And that's the lowdown to the 35th Q.E.D., this Elex sked's top manga Do Want! (Sankyuu~ to the Japanese Wiki for the Christmas present summary.) Babble for runners-up Skip Beat! 17 and Hell Girl 7 are after the manga list.

NEW ELEX TITLES: Animal Doctor and Ogawa and Team Saito

You have a choice of two shoujo comedies. Will you take Veterinarian, dogs, pets or Weak Female Lead, Unpopular Girl, Reverse Harem, scientist? The first gets you Animal Doctor by Sasaki Noriko, the second, Ogawa and Team Saito by Sakyo. [Thanks to Baka-Updates Manga for the Doubutsu no Oishasan and Ogawa to Yukai na Saitoutachi tags.] I prefer From sticking an arm into a cow to check its internals, to fighting over which laboratory equipment to buy, to the territorial battles between chickens ... Doubutsu has it! former. (Was converted by Rei-san's Sasaki Noriko's Wry, Humorous Veterinary Student Manga review.)

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Elex blurb first —

Animal Doctor 1 of 12 by Sasaki Noriko

Since meeting Professor Urushihara, Nishine Masaki's life has turned 180 degrees, taking him from forced care of a very peculiar Siberian Husky to life as a vet med student. With pals Nikaido and Hishinuma-senpai, Masaki goes through days of pure win(some).

Elex supplies no summary for Ogawa and Team Saito, probably assuming we already know it from its Nakayoshi Gress! stint. But for those still in the dark —

Ogawa and Team Saito 1 of 7+ by Sakyo

One fine day, Doormat Ogawa cracks under the pressure of constant bullying and lashes out at the “Three Feared Saito,” the school's Bad Boys. Instead of “Don't hit meeeh!!” *cower* retaliation, however, Ogawa ends up under the protection of the newly formed “Team Saito.” Does this spell an end to Ogawa's days as a victim? Or did her life just bank a sharp right to hijinks? [Adapted from Nagareboshi Manga's description, excerpted by Baka-Updates Manga]

I don't know about you, but this series sorta reminds me of BxB Brothers and/or Ah, Dear Banchou.

MANGAZINES: Shonen Star 71 and Nakayoshi Lovely 8: Apple

Hell Girl 7 of 9 by Eto Miyuki, Jigoku Shojo Project

Inuyasha 48 of 56 by Takahashi Rumiko

Naraku reappears, pitting Kanna and her mirror monster against Inuyasha, Kagome and the gang in a fight that has Inuyasha on the losing end.

Inuyasha's half brother Sesshomaru is trapped in the world of the dead! Will he find the key that opens the door to the world of the living? Meanwhile, Inuyasha and the others stumble upon a strange village ruled by a demon with peculiar feeding habits...

Among the romantic one-shots Elex went through the trouble of blurbing to hype Nakayoshi Lovely 8 are:

When it Snows by Mizukami Wataru

Miyuki dreams of one day meeting her Prince Charming and having her first kiss under a sprinkling of snow flakes. Her sights lock on Hyodo Yudai—the school's number one idol—as potential prince.

But forget about approaching Yudai; Miyuki is dissed by Zenji who discovers her love letter and criticizes her missive as sounding too much like a letter of challenge. Veins start popping on Miyuki's forehead, but with Zenji right, she takes the setback as a chance; she pressures Zenji, Yudai's close friend, to make her over as a princess fit for Yudai.

What will happen when Miyuki is finally ready to confess her feelings to her prince?

Mizukami Wataru-sensei is also the manga-ka of the ongoing, Boys Rhythmic Gymnastics-troped Tumbling and the split-personalitied shoujo romance Megane Ouji, released here as Pangeran Kacamata.

Fall in Love Song by Sakuya Ippo

Music lovers both, Hatsune and Rakutaro have been friends since they were kids. But by middle school, they separate, with Hatsune joining the music club and Rakutaro applying to the cooking club. The gap further widens as the pair's graduation looms. Rakutaro chooses a school that's not even on Hatsune's short list. This despite Rakutaro's once upon a time wish that they both attend the same senior high.

Hatsune accepts Rakutaro's decision, but her heart remains troubled. She gets even more agitated when she sees Rakutaro kissing another girl. Around her heartache, Hatsune thinks: Can we still stay friends?

Long Half Time by Arisawa Ryo

Aya's hospitalization for a leg injury bars her from competing in a very important soccer match. She becomes so depressed that she decides to quit playing altogether. Her meeting Toma, a fellow soccer fan the same age as her, makes her rethink her gloomy decision. For unlike Aya, Toma is all smiles, and doesn't look at all look like he should be in a hospital. He doesn't even sport a cast.

Toma's cheer rubs off on Aya, big-time, but what will happen when she finds out why Toma is in the hospital in the first place?

Arisawa Ryo (or Ryou) also created the Dolphin Blue shoujo slice of life, as well as illustrating the Harlequin Futari no Roku Shuukan manga, based on Debbie Macomber's series romance The Apartment.

Moonlight Talk by Shirasawa Marimo

Chitose and two friends vacation at a beach resort, but her BFFs left out telling Chitose they've also invited three boys from their school to join them, including Chitose's crush Izumi. So now 'fraidy cat Chitose—who doesn't even have the guts to approach Izumi, let alone talk to him—doesn't know how to act in front of Izumi. So awkward is she that she flubs her “Thank you” and antagonizes the boy she likes.

Saddened, Chitose takes herself off for some soul-searching while gazing at a whale-shaped island in the distance. When it's time for her to return, however, she finds the tide has already risen, and the rocks she stepped on submerged by sea water. She slips as she tries to make her way back, and surprise, surprise! Izumi saves her. But not for long. The pair are swept away to Whale Island and now have to spend the night together!

Shirasawa Marimo's other manga include another school life romance, Yumemiru Angel Blue, and the omnibus Manatsu no Rakuen.

Sweet Darling by Miyabi Suzu

Misato adores sweet stuff, especially cakes baked by her boyfriend Toma. You'd never find her saying “No” to anything her beloved makes. But when Misato finds out that Toma's family runs a café where his older sisters and mom work as waitstaff, she is struck down by an inferiority complex. She feels even more third-rate when she learns that Toma's sister models a very popular lipstick brand. Her discovery launches Misato on the strictest of diets, prompting her to snub even Toma's cakes. But Toma takes Misato's “rejection” the wrong way!

There are supposedly moar stories, but you'll have GET! NakaLovely 8 to find out. (Subjecting the When it Snows cover to squint mode »ON!, I make out the unblurbed Love Brigade.)
