Until Death Do Us Part 8 (Level Comics)

Square Enix [Serialized in Young Gangan]
Published in Indonesia as Until Death Do Us Part by Elex Media/Level Comics

Haruka has a vision of a classmate's assassination and in trying to save the future victim, finds herself drawn into a gang war orchestrated by Edge Turus' protégé Komura. Hunted down by hired killers and finally cornered in an old building, Haruka and three other students brace for the worst, only to find an unlikely savior in the person of...Kilo. [Additions from Ki-oon's Jusqu'à ce que la mort nous sépare, Tome 8 synopsis]

My question: Where is Mamoru while all this action is going down? (I guess I'll have to live with my curiosity until Until Death Do Us Part Volume 8: Trap streets on the 19th.)

Bloody Monday 6 of 11 by Ryumon Ryou & Megumi Kouji

BLOODY-X infects the THIRD-i command center. Fujimaru races to decrypt the Shikimura file forwarded to Mrs. Munakata for an anti-virus. Meanwhile, hiding underneath the terrorists' truck, Kano refuses to back down from tracking the criminals to their lair.

Chuang Yi's Bloody Monday: Season 1, Vol.6 synop teases by saying Fujimaru is finding it impossible to decode the Shikimura file. Let's join the CY blurb in a chorus: Impossible...? For Fujimaru?

New Level titles: Yugo - Shimokita Peninsula

Yugo is shocked by partner Kogure's implication in extortion cases involving the yakuza. He investigates and learns that the case is linked to both the yakuza and an anti-Japan group out of North Korea. What makes strange bedfellows of organized crime and a high-ranked official wanted by the Japanese police? More importantly, can Yugo save Kogure from the crossfire?

Shimokita Peninsula is the first arc of the Yugo II side stories and its 9.19 appearance answers the question I posed when the main Yugo The Negotiator series concluded in June 2010: Is Level also licensing Yugo II? The implications of this premiere ought to make "Yugo is the ult bishie!" Andrea Tezumo-sensei (The Fifth Columnist) delirious. ^^

The side stories span at least eight arcs (they're still ongoing). The first Yugo: Shimokita Hantou-hen is succeeded by Kitakyushu Tsushima-hen; Tokyo Tanegashima-hen; Osaka-hen (two volumes); Yokohama Yokosuka-hen (two volumes); Toyako Summit-hen (two volumes); Philippines Oda-Hen (three volumes); and most recently, Taiwan-hen (volume 1 published 2011.06).

Soul Eater 9, Dawn of The Arcana 2, Angel Heart 9 (Level Comics 3 August 2011 manga) [UPDATED]

Updated with manga covers and Level editor resources, and I still can't lead with Loki-chan and Dawn of the Arcana 2 because of Maka & Co. :P

Can Maka et al. succeed in synchronizing their souls' wavelengths before they have to face Arachnophobia?

Soul Eater editor Lenny-san marvels at how SPSS's best and brightest achieve Awesome! soul resonance.

Soul Eater 9 compiles chapters 32 through 35 (and the interstitial Special between chapters 32 and 33): The Corner of The Room, The Legend of the Holy Sword Special, A Class Full of Rivalry and ‘Brew’ Tempest (Parts 1 and 2). [*NOT Level's chapter titles]

Marsupilami - Mars Si Hitam (Level Comics)

Le Marsupilami, tome 3:
Mars le noir

© Franquin, Batem
& Yann/Marsu Production
Published in Indonesia as
Marsupilami -
Mars Si Hitam

by Elex Media

Four ROMICs or bande dessinée release, including Franquin, Batem & Yann's Marsupilami - Mars Si Hitam that editor Adis-san notes is populated by not just your regular yellow-and-black marsupilami, but also a charcoal-furred variety ;). Mars, the Black One dubbed "The Troublemaker" faces extermination at the hands of goons hired by the company that plans to build a road through Palombi forest.

There's also Franquin's solo flight Spirou & Fantasio - Para Perompak Keheningan that includes The Quick Super aside from the Pirates of Silence title story. Fantasio, sent to Incognito City to sniff out sensational news, not only fails to locate Count Champignac, he also ends up kidnapped. But before he goes missing, he and Spirou are shocked to learn that...marsupilami can talk??

Sez Spirou editor Niken-san: We'd previously thought Marsupilami can only go ‘Houba-houba’; in this volume, we learn that the keeyoot critter has the makings of a sparkling conversationalist ^_^

(The other BDs are Jojo - Papa Pulang by André Geerts, in which Jojo and grandma trek all over France, just for Jojo to see his dad, and Lucky Luke - Dalton Bersaudara Bertobat by Morris & Goscinny, in which Luke's arch foes, the Daltons, actually...repent!?

Tokyo 23 Vol. 1, Daydreaming 2, GoGo Hanasaki Detective Office 4 of 4 (Level Comics 15 June 2011 manga) [UPDATED]

The Level minimal-list mutates...and how! :D *sotto voce* BTW, I already have Level's release skeds clear to 6 July, thanks to Editor-in-Chief Demonbasher-san. Just have to get through this... and 22... and 28...

Tokyo 23 Vol. 1 (Level Comics)

Tokyo23 © Hashimoto Eiji and Arashida Takeshi/Shinchosha
[First serialized in Comic Bunch]
Published in Indonesia by Elex Media/Level Comics

Someone designs a game to lure the increasing numbers of NEET and hikikomori back into the mainstream. Competitors are fitted with bracelets, and whoever retains the bracelet till the end walks away with a cool 100 million yen. For the washouts, however, death by bizarre means awaits...

Talk about a “novel” way of coping with a societal concern... >,<

ANN points out that Tokyo 23 takes place within the 23 wards of Tokyo and centers on Noboru, an unemployed youth whose dream is to become a martial arts fighter and rival Dan who also signs up for the ‘X Game.’ Level editor Nickyta-san raves about NEETs (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) and hikikomori in the starring role and thumbs ups the meeting between aloof Dan and gung-ho Noboru. TC critic Lina-chan finds the premise similarly compelling, rates the series premiere an 8 of 10 and recommends it as a GET~!

Hashimoto Eiji- and Arashida Takeshi's Comic Bunch seinen manga was adapted into a live-action series—TOKYO23: Survival City—starring Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Yagira Yuya as Arai Noboru and Hongō Kanata (Nishi Joichiro, GANTZ Perfect Answer) as Komori Dan. The five-episode series aired between September and October 2010 on WOWOW.

Manga-ka Hashimoto Eiji-sensei's ongoing series include Chiruran: Shinsengumi Chinkonka; the alternate history Tenshou no Ryoma (in which Sakamoto Ryōma, the visionary leader of the anti-Shogun movement doesn't die by an assassin's hand); and the Yankee-troped Gakuen Heiki Mitsumaru. Wrapped up like Tokyo 23 is E.D.D. (Eliminate Dangerous Doctors). All quite intriguing titles.

Daydreaming 2 of 2+ by Yoshimura Akemi

One of Drill Sergeant Granny's grandchildren, Takato Akira, goes to live in the house where Suzuko boards. Akira's rudeness leads to squabbles with Suzuko, but Hatoko falls for Akira at first sight. Akira's susceptibility to spiritual possession further complicates the situation as the two ancestor spirits possessing him both drool over Suzuko!

Editor Adisti-san observes that this tank contains musings about the world we live in and life in general, par for the course for a Yoshimura Akemi manga. Adisti-san also asks for your patience regarding the next installment because even in its home country, the third Yume no Mahiru tankou has yet to release. This When is the next coming out? uncertainty also prompts Lina-chan to hold off buying the volumes, but she does approve of the escalating supernatural fantasy and gives Daydreaming 2 an 8 of 10.

ROMICs: Franquin's Marsupilami series premieres

André Franquin's series about a fictional black-spotted yellow monkey-like species, the Marsupilami, double launches with Marsupilami - Menangkap Marsupilami (Marsupilami, Tome 0: Capturer un Marsupilami!) and Marsupilami - Ekor Marsupilami (Marsupilami, Tome 1: La Queue du Marsupilami), the latter featuring art by Batem and story by Greg, originally published by Marsu Productions. The Marsupilami's arch-nemesis is the hunter Bring M. Backalive who lives to capture the critter, what else but breathing?

Other BDs this release: Boule & Bill - Empat Musim by Roba and Yakari dan Hantu Kayu by Derib & Job.
