Slam Dunk Deluxe 1 by Inoue Takehiko, Ouran High School Host Club 9, Library War Love & War 5 (Elex Media 2 November 2011 manga) [UPDATED]

That there new Slam Dunk be the Jump Comics Deluxe kanzenban, yo.
(MinimaList again—not to mention delayed—because my 'pooter Izzy-sama's on strike, wants more holidays :P Update: Not anymore but Izzy-sama's not budging on the holiday thing. The prospect of bargaining talks stalling looms.)

Slam Dunk Deluxe 1 (Elex Media)

Slam Dunk © Inoue Takehiko/Shueisha [First serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump]
Published in Indonesia by Elex Media

I'm pretty sure everyone knows Hanamichi's story, but let's refresh:

Introduction to one Akagi Haruko fires Sakuragi Hanamichi's desire to join the school basketball club. (Because, you know, she's crazy-mad about the game, and he wants to impress her.) But another Akagi—the captain of Shohoku's basketball team and Haruko's big bro—slams the gym door in Sakuragi's face. OK, so it's figuratively, but Akagi still detests Sakuragi, so much so that he (not-so fondly) nicknames the latter ‘Gorilla’.

To nab the admiration of his dream girl, Sakuragi does absolutely everything to get accepted into the Shohoku team. Does he succeed?

Is it over the top to say that Inoue Takehiko's shounen classic wrote the book on Basketball, Hot-Headed Male Lead, Friendship, Character Growth, Romantic Subplot, Teamwork, Tournament, Unrequited Love? I don't think so. Elex's Deluxe version—‘Deluxe’ like the bunko Topeng Kaca, Here is Greenwood and all the Hikawa Kyoko Fluff and not ‘Premiere’ like Kungfu Boy—is the Indonesian counterpart to the Jump Comics Deluxe kanzenban. So now you know. And if you didn't amass the 31 Slam Dunk tanks Elex published way back when, here's your collection chance.

Other Inoue Takehiko—you don't really need me to review Inoue Take-sensei's backlist, do you? (But just in case someone does, he produced two more basketball mangaBuzzer Beater and Real, the latter still an ongoing—after Slam Dunk, plus his own (award-winning) take on Yoshikawa Eiji's epic Musashi, Vagabond. Wiki sez his manga debut was Kaede Purple, the one-shot Slam Dunk alternate story that first appeared in 1988 in Weekly Shonen Jump. [Before that he reportedly worked as Hojo Tsukasa's assistant on City Hunter.] Inoue Takehiko's tankou debut was the shounen gender bender mystery Chameleon Jail, written by Watanabe Kazuhiko.)

As for the other newb this 11.02 release —

Detektif Conan Movie 1: The Time Bombed Skyscraper - First
By Aoyama Gosho

Elex has this blurb—Di penjuru kota Beika, terjadi kasus pembakaran dan pengeboman. Tujuannya masih misterius, tapi si pelaku ingin menantang Shinichi Kudo. Untuk mencegah jatuhnya korban, Conan harus bergegas!—but I like IMDb's succinct summary better:

The detective genius Conan must solve a series of bombings or his true love will die!

[From IMDb's Detective Conan: Skyscraper on a Timer entry]

Don't call me out on my use of the movie summary. The manga is based on the feature film after all ^^v

More previews (my adapts ^^) after the release list.

Durarara!! 3, My 17th Spring 2 of 2, Skip Beat! 20 (Elex Media 3 August 2011 manga) [UPDATE2]

Tweaked with additional Elex covers and synopses :D

So I'm back with the NikBabble™ — and leading with the cover of Her Idol Boy 1, my prime DO WANT!

(Also, took out the postponed Doraemon Movie: The Doraemons - Operasi Besar Serangga Bersemi)

Her Idol Boy 1 (Elex Media)

Mishounen Produce © Ichinose Kaoru
Hakusensha [First serialized in LaLa]
Published in Indonesia as Her Idol Boy by Elex Media

Kako and Kosei trade their backwoods village for the city, but upon entering Seiryo High, they become the butt of yokel jokes, especially glasses-as-thick-as-Coke-bottoms Kosei. Equally meganekko Kako fumes as she listens to random snobs dis her best friend, and she resolves to ‘produce’ Kosei's high school debut. Armed only with the 98-volume long shoujo classic "Lawrence & Roses," Kako undertakes the daunting task of turning Kosei into Her—and Everyone's—Idol Boy.

Childhood Friends, Country Boy/Country Girl, Image Transformations, Bishounen, Otaku, Popular Friend—and Modeled After a Frilly, Feminist, Old School Shoujo Hero—distinguish Ichinose Kaoru's Her Idol Boy, originally serialized in LaLa as a pinch hitter manga, in case other A-listers couldn't make the deadline (if I remember the Free Talks right). Kako is so successful in producing Kosei, but she fails to anticipate how he extends his new character beyond what she asks for, as Baka-Updates Manga points out in its Mishounen Produce description.

Can Kako live with the Idol Boy she created? More importantly, will she find herself left behind in the wake of his newly found popularity?

Now that I've given in to my Kako and Kousei-sama fangirling, blurbing top GET! (For deets on other Ichinose Kaoru manga, scroll (waaay) down.)

Durarara!! 3 of 4+ by Satorigi Akiyo, Narita Ryohgo

Mikado meets a pretty girl with a mysterious scar on her neck, a scar that makes her the target of the Black Biker. Is her head truly the one the Black Biker lost?

As I sed in the earlier version of this post, going with of 4+ for DRRR!! because that's what it (still) sez over at Baka-Updates Manga.

New! I preview the My 17th Spring finale (volume 2), as well as Blooming Youth 4 after the release list.

C.M.B. 15, Detektif Conan 61, Library War: Love and War 3 (Elex Media 11 May 2011 manga)

JP/ID cover mix because option ga butuh covernya, cuma butuh teksnya (Cover not needed; give me list!) won the Elex poll.

Published in Indonesia as C.M.B. by Elex Media Komputindo

Another of Shinra's adoptive fathers pops up — Professor Stan tracking a stolen Cambodian Devata sculpture to Japan. Unlike risk-taker dad Ray though, Stan appears normal. But his (surface) serenity presages headaches for our (already) clueless genius Shinra.

Summary refers to Op.41 Stan that first appeared in Monthly Shonen Magazine's June 2010 issue. It is one of four C.M.B 15 stories. The others are

  • Ariadne's Thread (Op.39), unraveling the mystery of the wooden Minotaur behind Shinra on the cover;
  • Fishing (Op.40), which sees Shinra's jaunt to a fishing pier overrun with cops chasing drug traffickers; and
  • Quilt (Op.42), in which a British Museum director risks worsening health to ask Shinra to decipher a mysterious quilt.

You know, right, that these snap synopses—save Op.41's—didn't come from Elex? (They hail from the Japanese   C.M.B. Wiki article.)

Now for the other top DO WANT! — volume 61 of the 24th longest running manga series, according to EN Wiki's tankou tally.

Detektif Conan 61 of 71+ by Aoyama Gosho

Phantom Thief Kid appears before his fans; what teleportation magic—and jewel theft—await?

Aside from chapter 631 Purple Nail (Kid's jewel target), Detektif Conan 61 investigates the case of peculiar paper airplanes (chapter 638 Paper Airplane) that Conan and Okiya Subaru deduce to be... (Go »here if you want the   SPOIL.)

New Elex manga

Wickedness and other Things That Don't Just Go Bump in the Night loom in the 5.11 debuts: Dream Eater Merry by Ushiki Yoshitaka, Moonlight Act by Fujita Kazuhiro and Princess Resurrection by Mitsunaga Yasunori. I already babbled about Yumekui Merry (reskedded from 4.27) and who can't claim even a passing acquaintance with Monsters, Princess, Vampires, Werewolves, Zombies, Adapted to Anime, Weak Male Lead, Strong Female Lead, Royal Family, Resurrection Kaibutsu Oujo? So Moonlight Act gets the Above the Cut blog estate. (Don't fret; I ramble about Princess Resurrection after the release list.)

Moonlight Act by Elex Media

Let me tell you a troublesome story: Every few decades, the light of a blue moon illuminates the earth, causing the faerie tale world children know from bedtime stories to experience weirdness. For this reason, the council of the world of tales enacted the Moonlight Ordinance.

Baka-Updates Manga in its Gekkou Jourei description contributes the name of our Hero: Iwasaki Gekko, high school student slash enforcer of the Moonlight Ordinance or Act aimed at normalizing the strange. (I don't know who is the girl on the cover; MU didn't say.)

Best known for the award-winning Calvin and Hobbes on acid Ushio to Tora, Fujita Kazuhiro-sensei is also the brain behind Bakegyamon. His 43-volume Karakuri Circus premieres over on Level Comics's side the same day as Moonlight Act. Both serialized in Shonen Sunday, but Gekkou Jourei is still current.

Oh, and manga-ka Raiku Makoto (Konjiki no Gash!!), Anzai Nobuyuki (Flame of Recca) and Inoue Kazurou (Midori Days) once worked as Fujita-sensei's assistants.

Apparently, an IDR 160,000 price ticket for a 10-volume box set isn't as hard to swallow as I'd first surmised; LX kids jumped at the chance of acquiring Dragon Ball volumes 1-10, 11-20 AND 21 to 30. Now, I don't know how many DB volumes Elex plans to bundle in total, but if we go by the original 42 tankou, one would need another IDR 192,000 on top of the IDR 480,000 for these three sets to complete the collection. So looking at an IDR 672,000 outlay or roughly USD 78.62 here.

Now if that Edisi Baru/New Edition you can see if you squint at teh cover means Elex is releasing the kanzenban (off-off-OFF! chance), then you'd need to factor in the cost of only four more volumes. But considering the IDR 16,000/volume price—500 rupiah less than the price of a regular tank—I doubt it's the kanzenban.
