Detektif Conan 65, Dr. Koto 9, Faster than a Kiss 2 (Elex Media 4 January 2012 manga)

Of course, the Sherlock Holmes-inspired Meitantei Conan—which has sold more than 120 million copies in Japan alone—grabs the lead.

Update: Changed Shonen Star issue number from "01/2012" to "24/2011" (the former only streets on the 18th of January)

[Serialized in Shonen Sunday]
Published in Indonesia as Detektif Conan by Elex Media

Inspector Yamato Kansuke solicits Conan and the gang's help to probe into the mystery of a red wall drizzled with more than just crimson paint, the victim's dying message. Nosing into the investigation is Inspector ‘Koumei,’ none other than Inspector Yamato's rival. Can they all cooperate long enough to crack the case?

Detektif Conan volume 65 also picks up Iron Tanuki where chapter 674 of volume 64 left off, and delves into the mystery of "A Dubious Pair" and the Detective Boys' sparring match with bank robbers within the tankou compiling chapters 675 through 685: Hiding, Unlocking, The Fated Individual, The Trap, Shaking Heart, Accompanying Two Dangerous People, Half-Kill, Red Wall, In The Hand, The Late Koumei and Make Friends Hurry. Dr. Koto vol 9 of 25+
By Yamada Takatoshi

The solo fighter doctor on the remote island of Koshiki, Dr. Koto receives a phone call from Dr. Ebato, the leader in the field of organ transplants, asking for surgical assistance. Koto, about to operate on Madame Uchi, one of the island's oldest residents, declines, but without explanation, later accepts and joins his colleague. Shocked by his decision, the islanders express their dissatisfaction: Why has the doctor abandoned us?

It turns out, the patient Dr. Koto is about to operate on hides an unexpected secret...

Dr. Koto 9: Berpisah collects chapters 90–102.

In the latest Detektif Conan chapter —

The Black Organization is again on the move. Members stake out a mall, suspecting that Akai Shuichi survived, after a lookalike is caught on camera with the hostages of an earlier bank heist. At the same time, Detective Mouri Kogoro, looking into the red shirt case, meets a man who's a dead ringer for Akai.

If I read the Wiki summaries right, Elex's Conan volume 65 release ain't that far behind the Indonesian serialization; the preview above slots neatly into volume 67.

The other Shonen Star highlight is the premiere of Mitsuda Takuya's Buyuden. I thought it would be Arakawa Hiromu's Silver Spoon, but perhaps we'll get that in the next Issue 2. At any rate, LOLicious, Pride Before The Fall description of Boxing Meets Romance Buyuden »here. Imma just excerpt the last bit:

Isamu finds out that not only is Moka more athletic than him from all her years of boxing, she's also much smarter than him. Will he able to get over his overly sensitive pride and dive into a romantic relationship?

Mitsuda Takuya is the manga-ka of 1996 Shogakukan Manga Awardee Major. Other ShoStars, notably Wild Life by Fujisaki Masato, Kekkaishi by Tanabe Yellow and Dr. Koto, are also no slouches when it comes to winning Shogakukan manga awards.

Also currently serializing are ARAGO by Arai Takahiro, Magi by Ohtaka Shinobu (which reportedly has a ‘huge project’ in development), Alice in Borderland by Aso Haro, Defense Devil by Youn InWan & Yang KyungIl, My First Mr. Akuno by Fujiki Syun and The World God Only Knows by Wakaki Tamiki.

Collecting the tankou? Most recent volumes apart from Detektif Conan 65 and Dr. Koto 9 that street with ShoStar 1: Kekkaishi vol 10 (2011.10.19 release date), Wild Life 20 (2011.09.28), My First Mr. Akuno 5 (2011.08.15) and Defense Devil 5 (2011.08.10).

Inuyasha 55, Kungfu Boy Premium 7, Q.E.D. 38 (Elex Media 16 November 2011 manga) [UPDATED]

Debated whether to finish the draft NikBabble™ first or give you the shopping MinimaList nau. The latter won. Be back later with moar eyecandy and blurbs. «Edit: I'm baaaaaack!

Inuyasha 55, Kungfu Boy Premium 7, Q.E.D. 38 (Elex Media)

Inuyasha © Takahashi Rumiko/Shogakukan [First serialized in Shonen Sunday] · Tekken Chinmi © Maekawa Takeshi/Kodansha [Kodansha Manga Bunko] · Q.E.D. Shomei Shuryo © Katou Motohiro [Serialized in Monthly Shōnen Magazine +, formerly in Magazine E-no]. Published in Indonesia as Inuyasha, Kungfu Boy (Premium) and Q.E.D. Quod Erat Demonstrandum by Elex Media

Naraku forces Sango into a corner: if she sacrifices Rin, she can save Miroku. Whatever her choice, will she be in time to stop Miroku from opening his last wind tunnel?

It seems everyone falls prey to Naraku and his look-alikes' traps in Takahashi Rumiko's Inuyasha 55, the penultimate volume. While Inuyasha and Sesshomaru attack Naraku in earnest... Kagome loses her priestess powers, making her a prime target! [from VIZ Media's Inuyasha, Vol. 55: Power of the Jewel description]

Inuyasha 55 compiles chapters 539–548: Capture, Reborn Light, Trap of Light, Swallowed Light, Vanished Arrow, Core, Despair, Naraku's Wish, Cutting Meidou and Byakuya's Blade. [*NOT Elex/Shonen Star chapter titles] If you can't wait for Elex to release the final tankou, check out Shonen Star and find the post 548 chapters there.

I would've followed up the Inuyasha 55 preview with that of Kungfu Boy 7 Premium, but its synopsis is the same as Flash of Wind 29's (screencap proof »here and »here for when Gramedia Shop twigs and changes KBP 7's synops). Chinmi fans, don't fret, because Chinmi is also the star (the front cover) of Shonen Magz Issue 11 (also streets on the 16th), which (prolly) means a major Kungfu Boy Legends development is afoot. But more on ShoMagz later.

So you can see I have a valid reason for previewing Q.E.D. volume 38 up here—Inuyasha, Kungfu Boy and Q.E.D. all tied for top DO WANT! so fair's fair—and it has nothing to do with me fangirling Touma nor shipping Touma×Kana :P

Q.E.D. vol 38 of 40+
By Katou Motohiro

Kuse Yumeji, a film producer with big dreams, persuades Shimamoto Shigehiko, a millionaire's son, to bankroll his movies. The movies do so badly at the tills, Shimamoto loses all his money.

One day, as Shimamoto is about to ask Kuse for a DVD of "Metaphor Murder Case," the producer is murdered. The main suspect: Shimamoto.

Synops above refers to chapter 75 Kekosongan, one of two Q.E.D. 38 stories, first serialized in Magazine E-no's November 2010 issue. The other story is Tujuh Belas, first published in January 2011. [Original serialization details from the Japanese Wikipedia Q.E.D.証明終了 entry.]

Naruto 53, Fullmetal Alchemist 27 of 27, C.M.B. 16 (Elex Media 28 September 2011 manga) [UPDATED]

Eleven Elex titles were postponed for print production and distribution reasons, so NikBabble™ got lopped off. Somewhat.

Naruto 53 (Elex Media)

Naruto © Kishimoto Masashi/Shueisha [Serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump]
Published in Indonesia by Elex Media

To obtain the power of Kyubi, Naruto trains on a remote isle of Kumogakure Village. But when he succeeds in breaking the demon fox's seal, the liberated Nine Tails poises to engulf him. Not even Bee can help.

Just as Naruto comes the closest to losing to Kyubi's corruption, a figure from the past intervenes...

Talk about facing your demons! That Naruto volume 53 is titled Kelahiran Naruto or The Birth of Naruto, however, hints at the identity of Naruto's savior. Prepare for poignant :D

Naruto 53 compiles chapters 495–504: Dark Naruto, Defeated!! · Reunion with Nine Tails!! · Nine Tails vs. Naruto!! · My Ma's Red Hair · A New Seal!! · The Birth of Naruto · Nine-Tails Attacks!! · The Fourth Lord's Death Match!! · Minato's Reaper Death Seal!! · Thank You. [*NOT Elex chapter titles] (Btw, if you don't want   [SPOILAGE],  don't. Click. The Link!)

For other DO WANT! (Fullmetal Alchemist 27!), see after the release list.

Box sets: Too Terribly Tempting!
Elex boxes up droolicious that are Good Value — anyway you look at it (them). Volumes 1–3 of Tamura Yumi's Adventure of Cat Mix Toraji fantasy (reviewed »here by Raven-san) and the complete Beauty Honey (Vols. 1–3 of 3) by Matsumoto Tomo both go for IDR 24,000 a box set. The also complete Best Friend Survival! (Vols. 1–2 of 2) by Nakamura Seiko (originally Yuujou Survival!) and Vols. 1–2 of Kodama Yuki's set-in-1960s-Kyushu josei drama Apollon on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollo) retail for IDR 16,000/set. You can take Vols. 1–7 of Sasaki Noriko's Animal Doctor (Doubutsu no Oishasan) home for IDR 56,000 and I suggest you do as

From sticking an arm into a cow to check its internals, to fighting over which laboratory equipment to buy, to the territorial battles between chickens ... Doubutsu has it!

Per noted, Beauty Honey and Best Friend Survival! sets bundle complete series, but Adventure of Cat Mix Toraji remains current in Japan. Neko Mix Genkitan Toraji vol. 4 streeted February 2011; Elex's most recent release is volume 3 published April 2010. Adventure of Cat Mix Toraji 4, however, is advertised in the October Komikologi, if that entices you any.

Likewise an ongoing, Sakamichi no Apollo released its volume 7 in Japan last February. Elex has (obviously) published two volumes. No word yet on Apollon 3.

While Doubutsu no Oishasan has finished in its home country (was even reissued in eight bunkoban between 1995.12 and 1996.06), Elex's latest is Animal Doctor 8, which streeted last August. This series has been healthily regular in its release sked, hint hint :D

GOGOGO to the West

Manga premieres: GOGOGO to the West by Konishi Noriyuki
I'm sure most of us, if not all of us, have bumped into the monk Sanzo and the Monkey King on their Journey to the West sometime, somewhere along the manga road. Gogogo Saiyuki is Konishi Noriyuki's shounen spin on the popular classic. Elex promises a hilarious! ride ahead.

Gogogo Saiyuki Shin Gokuden debuted in 2008 in Corocoro Comic (home of Inazuma Eleven and Dorabase, among others). Elex indicates the manga status in Japan as 1–12 (Ongoing) but I can only dig up to volume 7 (per 28 June 2011). So, that's the volume tally I use.

For other Konishi Noriyuki manga (including another Journey to the West fantasy), scroll down.

Mangazines: Nakayoshi 9/2011 and Shonen Star 17/2011
I fill in the shoujo debuts Elex teases in its Nakayoshi Gress! 9/2011 blurb: Kami Kami Kaeshi by Toyama Ema (Unyuuu~) and SGC! Survival Game Club or Sabagebu by Matsumoto Hideyoshi. No such premieres on the Shonen Star 17/2011 front, but the star in the spotlight is twins-troped AR∀GO by Arai Takahiro. [Babble continued behind the cut]
