Giant Killing 1, The Black Swindler 11, Jepang Tenggelam 10 (Level Comics 2 March 2011 manga)

Giant Killing 1 by Tsunamoto Masaya (Level Comics)

Giant Killing © Tsunamoto Masaya, Tsujitomo/Kodansha
[Serialized in Morning]
Published in Indonesia by Elex Media/Level Comics

Level Comics presents the 34th Kodansha Manga Awardee for General Manga—Giant KillingTsunamoto Masaya- & Tsujitomo's seinen sports drama.

Those who've watched the anime adapt already know Giant Killing's plot, but for the benefit of those (like me), who don't, blurb:

Under former soccer player Tatsumi's coaching, an English amateur club manages to beat an elite team. For precisely this reason, Goto and Yuri scout Tatsumi to coach East Tokyo United or ETU.

Problem: Will the England club let Tatsumi go? And what kind of reception awaits Tatsumi in Japan?

Tsujitomo-sensei appears to have only the ongoing Morning-serialized Giant Killing in teh back list, but Tsunamoto Masaya-sensei is also credited for the likewise soccer-troped Goal Den Age, published here by m&c!

The Black Swindler 11 of 20 by Kuromaru & Natsuhara Takeshi

Our favorite Swindler of Swindlers Kurosaki is back and this time, he's on the side of big business, helping an honest (if careless) insurance employee defrauded by a shirosagi.

Jepang Tenggelam 10 of 15 by Komatsu Sakyou, Ishiki Tokihiko

With Kanto, Kyoto and Kyushu lying in ruins, the Japanese citizens pin their final hopes on a plan to prevent Japan from sinking further. Lights flash green for the Dismantle A strategy.

Will the dangerous plan work? Or does more tragedy lie ahead?

What excitement has Mi-chan stumbled on to now?

Hikayat Genji 5 of 13 by Yamato Waki

Genji relents over leaving Akashi-no-onkata and her daughter in Suma and arranges for their move to the capital, nearer to him. Dame Akashi dissents. Genji considers her lower social status and opts to take in only her daughter Akashi-no-nyougo.

What will Akashi-no-onkata, reluctant to part with her child, do to thwart Genji? And what will be Murasaki no Ue's reaction when she learns of the arrangement?

(I apologize for any mistakes in the above synop. Crafted it with the help of Wiki as I'm not following Hikayat Genji and have yet to go past five pages into the source literary classic.)

Level premieres The Hunting of The Snark by Miyabe Miyuki, Ohishi Hiroto

I know next to nothing about The Hunting of The Snark, Ohishi Hiroto's manga adapt of the Snark Kari novel by Miyabe Miyuki (author of Brave Story). I'm waiting on Level to revert to me on a blurb, which I promise to share with you soon as I receive it. Found me the next best thing (Gramedia Shop book detail), which still nets you, my dear reader, the same result:

A mysterious girl drops by the bar where Shuji works on Christmas eve. She stops by again several times, before disappearing for two months. When Shuji next sees her, she's lurking at a crime scene.

Did Mystery Girl have anything to do with the man's death? And what's with the weird shadow trailing her?

This too is going down as GET!, based largely on my collecting most anything related to Alice in Wonderland.

Nanase Fire Investigator 5 of 7 by Hashimoto Izo, Ichikawa Tomoshige

For services rendered, Nanase is promoted and two juniors, Sato and Yamagata, assigned to her team. Their first assignment: to investigate a fire in a tollway underpass. Little do they know that the tunnel has been rigged, the ignorance paid for with the deaths of both of Nanase's subordinates.

In the inquest that follows, investigator Hikawa accuses Nanase of being the serial arsonist Firebug, intimating that Nanase has been behind the torching crimes all this time.
