Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle 16 (Elex Media)

Tsubasa © Clamp/Kodansha [First serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine]
Published in Indonesia by Elex Media Komputindo

Elex didn't preview two of the three manga in the post title, which leads me to the conclusion that Powers That Be got in on the skedding after Komikologi October went into production. Fortunately, other language synops fill in the oversight, so I will be borrowing those for Tsubasa 16 (this sked's Most Wanted) and Fairy Tail 8.

Truth and lies tangle in a world of sand in Clamp's Tsubasa 16: The world shakes in the fated chance encounter!! as Shinfo frees Other!Syaoran while Real!Syaoran fights a death match against Kamui to retrieve Sakura's feather. It's only a matter of time before the two Syaorans clash... [Adapted from Pika Édition's Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, tome 16 blurb translation and Chuang Yi's TSUBASA Reservoir Chronicle, Volume 16 summary]

Meanwhile Del Rey's Vol. 16: The Friendship Breaks! blurb has this to add: ...a tumultuous battle leaves one of the friends near death, while another becomes an enemy after a shocking act of betrayal.

Fairy Tail 8 of 23+ by Mashima Hiro

In keeping with the unexpected conspiracy bent, I presume this tankou release top-of-mind capitalizes on the Southeast Asian airing of the Fairy Tail anime (on Animax) and/or the upcoming October premiere of Season 2 in Japan, but that's just me. (Your Mileage May Vary.) In any case, Natsu takes on Phantom Lord magic guild's Gajeel in Fairy Tail 8. As both dragon slayers duke it out, Phantom Lord prepares a spell of destruction that, once cast, may reduce its rival wizarding guild to... not even rubble. Fairy Tail's fate rests in the hands of Natsu and his friends, but can their combined magic avert the guild's imminent annihilation? [Adapted from Del Rey's Fairy Tail, Vol. 8: Ultimate Duel synopsis and Pika Édition's Fairy Tail, tome 8 preview translation]

FINALES: Penguin Revolution and Kaiser Z

Two series end as a new month of manga begins: Penguin Revolution by Tsukuba Sakura and Kaiser Z by Uno Hiroshi. I will only blurb the seventh PenKaku up here; for the science-fiction-set-in-WWII saga-ender, scroll kudasai.

The “Double Casting” to which Peacock's director alluded apparently didn't refer to Ryo and Makoto. So who will be Ryo's thespian sparring partner? And what will happen to the Peacock agency and its artists after the director takes a gamble on a spectacular “Stairway to Dreams” performance, despite Oka Yoko's worsening condition?

Elex promises the final volume will answer all your PenKaku questions, though MY mileage varies, having read the conclusion in HanaLaLa. Plus, that's one hella ambitious burden to lay on the ±300gm volume 7. The only certainty is that this shoujo series wraps faithful to its Penguin Revolution metaphor, with nary a real penguin sighting, much less one waging a revolt. *groans at her own lameness*

NEW ELEX TITLES: Tsuba Kiyo - 28K4, Crayon Shinchan edu-manga

Two titles debut this Wednesday: Nakayoshi alumna Tsuba Kiyo - 28K4 by Hara Asumi and Crayon Shinchan: Mari Mengenal Serangga (Crayon Shinchan: Let's Get to Know Insects) by Usui Yoshito. (You'll have to wait longer for the premiere of licensed Shinchan.) As with the finales, I blurb only one newbie here, so you know what to do if you want to introduce yourself to arthropods.

Just as student council prexy Sakurai Seiji imagines himself a telepath, along comes Tsubaki Kiyoi with the verified ability to read minds. What brings her to the student council? She desires to become a member?!

And thus the legendary Strongest Student Council Tsubakiyo is born.

Student Council, Psychic Powers, Stoic Character are the top Baka-Updates user-voted tags for this short (only two volumes) series.

Hara Asumi-sensei was last seen with School x Fight, but s/he also created Teman (Tomodachi), Future is Ours, as well as illustrating the manga biography of Nakagawa Shouko.

The Elex Book Reviews editor recommends this edu-manga for kids to learn about insects, the class that includes more than a million described species and represent more than half of all known living organisms (so cites Wikipedia).

Butterflies and crickets (which tickles me as very Japanese) are among the nearby Insecta featured, but I doubt the non-fiction comic has Shinchan and pals making pets out of, say, Xestobium rufovillosum AKA death watch beetles.

The 216-paged, 14 x 21cm Crayon Shinchan - Mari Mengenal Serangga carries an IDR 25,800 (approx. USD 2.89) SRP.

Last June, Elex released Crayon Shinchan - Keajaiban Ilmu Pengetahuan (Crayon Shin-chan: The Marvels of Science) at the same IDR 25,800 price.
