Update: Chuang Yi DID change its mind, or rather its release schedule [my screen cap version]. Both the simplified Chinese Gate7 and the Kekkaishi finale have been postponed. Completing the round-up: the English Otomen vol 12, RINNE volume 6 and the reskedded for the fourth time Metal Fight Beyblade vol 5.

Published in Indonesia by Elex Media

Idamaria opposes Father Selma's plan to accommodate Kucabara and Bichura at the church, but can't stop the priest from allowing the pair to stay. Why does Idamaria so loathe Kucabara? Is it because he's a demon?

The female exorcist will have to continue sucking it up, partnered as she is with Kucabara in training, Wiki explains in its Defense Devil volume 4 summary. And apparently, Idamaria cooperates long enough to produce dark matter and fuel Kucabara's powers.

Defense Devil 4 compiles Judgments 6 through 9: The Key to the Demon World (Parts 3-9), Legato, Night before Departure and Invitation. In conventional numbers, that translates to chapters 28 to 37. [*NOT Elex Media/Shonen Star chapter titles]

Meanwhile, you can find the latest Judgments in Shonen Star, Issue 10/2011 of which also streets on Wednesday. (More on the Indonesian Shonen Sunday below.)

Maya plays Puck in the Tsukikage- and Ikkakuju "Midsummer Night's Dream" joint production. Initially, the stage was to have been the Athena, but Athena's management refused to let the play run, forcing the actors to consider the park next door as their outdoor stage. At Hayami Masumi's suggestion, they decide to perform for charity in the hopes of attracting a bigger audience. Pull in enough viewers, and maybe, just maybe, they will be allowed to move to the Athena theater.

Fukuchi Tsubasa's ping-pong love comedy graduates from Shonen Star serial to tankou.

Before Marunouchi Gaku left his childhood thweetheart Tamano Kako for parts abroad, he promised her that they would date each other when he returned. But when Gaku finally comes home, Japan has already passed the Law of Takkoku, which stipulates that before you can confess your love to another, you must first win a table tennis match against that person.

The thing is, Kako is the number one table tennis athlete in all of Japan and Gaku has never even played ping-pong. What's more, Gaku wants to be the one to confess first.

Can Gaku win a duel against Kako who absolutely refuses to compromise and throw the match?

You already know Fukuchi Tsubasa-sensei, right? The Law of Ueki and The Law of Ueki Plus ring a bell?

Elex also introes another shounen manga, Magi, about a boy and his genie traveling companion, in the latest Shonen Star 10/2011. Magi (Takkoku!!!'s replacement?) is the creation of Ohtaka Shinobu, prolly better known for the seinen harem comedy, Sumomomo Momomo. Find Magi and the rest of the ShoStars huddling (waay) below.

RINNE 5 by Takahashi Rumiko (Chuang Yi 5 April 2011 English manga)

Also, simplified Chinese mangaDN Angel #12, can you believe? (Scroll down for DARK × Daisuke's testosteroney companions.)

Also, don't know why The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya manga volume 8 went from Coming soon at 2011-04-05 to dateless between 2 and 4 April. I woulda thunk Chuang Yi woulda pushed it, seeing as Season 2 of the Haruhi Suzumiya anime premieres on the 6th on Animax. In any case —

In RINNE 5 (ISBN: 978-981-4323-74-1), can Rinne help a totally smitten female Shinigami find a misplaced sib, when all he can think about is Sakura? Wouldn't be a Takahashi Rumiko manga without the odd rabu triangle or two, but this ghostbustin' threesome's gotta be one of the oddest.

Three manga series debut this week: Ghost's Doctor by Sato Yuki, making the jump to tankou from ShoMagz serialization to answer the question: Do yokai have doctors? (In a word, yes); Cynical Kanoko AKA The Secret Notes of Lady Kanoko by Tsujita Ririko, the ex-LaLa DX shoujo manga about a girl who styles herself a people watcher and her descent into (gasp) actual social participation; and Red Haired Anne, Igarashi Yumiko's Akage no Anne mangafication of L.M. Montgomery's classic Anne of Green Gables.

No previews of ongoing series follow, unless RL decides to cut me some slack. Oh, but I would like to remind you that the Kekkaishi anime premieres tomorrow on Animax Asia. Volume 4 of the manga streets the day after.

Naruto 50, Wild Life 12, Pirates and the Mermaid 1 by Kiuchi Tatsuya (Elex Media 12 January 2011 manga)

Pirates & the Mermaid 1 (Elex Media)

Kaizoku to Ningyo © Kiuchi Tatsuya/Hakusensha
[Serialized in Hana to Yume]
Published in Indonesia as Pirates & the Mermaid by Elex Media

Before I get to Pirates & the Mermaid—and yes, it IS Mermaid, typo on the cover notwithstanding—Sasuke and Naruto 50: Underwater Deathmatch!! first.

Sasuke attacks the Kage convention, but despite activating Amaterasu and Susanoo, remains hard-pressed to defeat the reps from the most powerful ninja villages. Meanwhile, in the midst of the Sasuke chaos, Uchiha Madara appears and reveals a terrible plan to the Kage.

As for the DO WANT! First Runner-up —

Wild Life 12 of 27 by Fujisaki Masato

Between transferring from RED to Meio University, Tessho conducts a massive purge — this after seeing Meio patients coming down with acute gastritis. This greatly stresses out Dean Heinami, especially when Tessho declares the outbreak to be nosocomial, or infections originating within the hospital.

NEW ELEX SERIES: Pirates & the Mermaid, the reissued Doraemon and Kindaichi Special Case: Snow Spirit Murder

Elex reissues the Doraemon manga in the original right-to-left Japanese binding and premieres the fourth Kindaichi Special Case: Snow Spirit Murder by Amagi Seimaru & Sato Fumiya, which from its title is (doh-obvious) about a murderous “snow ghost.” I suggest getting this as the second and final volume streets on the 19th.

The third debut is, of course —

Pirates & the Mermaid 1 of 3+ by Kiuchi Tatsuya

The people of his village sell off Hisui to a wealthy merchant collector of rare and beautiful items for money. Chained and treated no better than a chachki, Hisui rebels and tries to make a break for it. During his escape, Hisui bumps into a pirate after the merchant's prize “mermaid.” Hearing of the pirate's intent, Hisui feels his getaway growing worthless.

What in the world is happening? What is Hisui's connection to this “mermaid”?

You might've already heard of Kaizoku to Ningyo because concentration on this Pirates and Mermaid series has resulted in Kiuchi Tatsuya-sensei's historical shoujo romance Honey Flower's hiatus at volume 3.
